| hwz1's Full Review: Hot+Cold Mini Fridge |
Have you ever taken your lunch to work only to discover that when you go to eat it, there is not much left. Yep, someone got to your lunch before you did. Or, have you left a bag in the fridge for a future time? Perhaps a bag that houses a bunch of grapes? Of course, someone else decides that they need your grapes more than you do so they help themselves. Does this ever happen to you?
It rarely happens to me, but when it does it really steams me. Why would anyone want my lunch? Why would anyone even think to look inside my lunch? UGH! So frustrating.
So, I took matters into my own hands. I decided to get away from the community fridge and get something that was personal to me and my needs. Hence, the purchase of the Sharper Image Hot + Cold Mini Fridge.
The Mini Fridge is the perfect size for my desk- 10 1/2" x 7 3/4" x 11 3/4" and just a little over five pounds- and with enough room for my lunch. I can easily fit an apple, sandwich, two 16 ounce drinks and a few other things in the fridge. Heck, I can even store that bag of grapes in addition to all this stuff.
But this is not just a fridge. The thing works as a fridge by keeping things cold. Simply, flip a switch and you have cold air pumped in and in a matter of few minutes you will have the temperature at 42 degrees. The process is so quick because it is done through electricity and not by some other non-environmentally friendly method. The cool thing is that you can cool something down that starts warm. For instance, I like my grapes cold and when I buy them off the street they are always warm. Alas, a quick flip of the switch and I have my cold grapes.
Ok, so what about the hot option? Again, as easy as flipping a switch and waiting a few minutes for the thing to heat up to 140 degrees. Just remember to remove the milk and cheese or you will have a mess. But seriously, this works great for takeout foods. I often will eat a slice of pizza and some fruit for lunch and then leave a second slice of pizza to stay warm. I just do not want both at the same time. The Mini Fridge allows me to do so without getting up making the trek to one of the world's nastiest microwaves.
The Mini Fridge is something that I expect to have for a long time. Well, that is unless is gets stolen. I solved the problem of making sure that my food does not get swiped, but now I worry that my fridge will walk out with the cleaning crew. But, back to my original point. The Mini Fridge is well built and of high quality as far as I can tell. The door is the only external moving part that you will use or handle and the door seems to be well constructed and solid. The Mini Fridge runs on the power of an AC adapter and the motor is stored away just like with a normal fridge.
A few other points to keep in mind. For one, the Mini is a quiet machine and in a matter of minutes you will not even notice that it is there. Secondly, the Mini Fridge also comes with an adapter that allows you to plug it into your car's lighter. Finally, there is a one year warranty.
I highly recommend the Sharper Image Mini Fridge if you eat at your desk or if you bring food to work that often manages to find it's way in other's hands. The Mini is small, quiet, and works like a dream.
