Will never go back to Nokia again!!
I've always been a fan of Nokia phones and was hesitant to stray from them. My last phone was a Nokia 3595 and I really liked it but I was getting tired of having an open faced phone. I found that I kept pushing the buttons on the phone and sometimes would make calls unknowingly.
I wanted a flip phone so the keys would be covered at all times when not in use but really didn't find anything from Nokia that appealed to me.
I went to the AT&T site and found several phones that were available for free. One of them was the Samsung X426. The catch to getting this phone for free was that I had to extend my contract for another two years. This was not a problem for me as I am very happy with AT&T and had planned on being with them for years to come anyway.
So I order the phone (actually, I ordered two of them as my wife wanted one as well) on Friday evening and I received them Monday afternoon via FedEx. I don't know about you but I thought that was pretty darn quick!
The phone came in a small box with everything I needed:
The phone (of course)
Battery (fully charged)
Battery charger (home only)
Wrist strap
Hands free ear piece (the best looking one I've seen)
Instruction booklet (from Samsun and from AT&T)
Accessory booklet
Set up was a breeze! I didn't even have to call AT&T to set up my phone. I just took my SIM card from my old Nokia and plugged it into my Samsung and that's it! I've never been able to take a cell phone out of the box and start using it right away. I was extremely happy!
So I open up my new flip phone and turn it on. I was completely amazed by the vibrant colors and brilliance of the screen (I'll put specs at the bottom of this review). Right away I start pushing buttons to try and figure out all of the features. Of course the instruction booklet is still sealed up in the cellophane wrapper. I don't need instructions!! I was very pleased with the layout of the keypad. All the buttons are very well placed and just big enough for my big clumsy thumbs.
The first feature I went to was the ring tones. This is probably the only feature that I was disappointed with. The sound that comes out of the phone is really cool but the songs that are pre programmed are a little to gay (for lack of a better term) for me. Also, there are no regular ring tones. It seems all the rings are cutsie little tunes. There are a couple of rings that are a little amusing like the bird chirping and horse rings. I would never use them but it gave me a chuckle. If you want a regular ring tone then you will have to download one from the internet or through your mMode feature.
There is an Organizer built into the phone with features such as Calendar, To Do List, Alarm, Calculator and Currency Exhchange.
The features built into this phone are pretty typical of any cell phone. The thing that sets this phone apart from others are it's looks, size and screen. It's a really good looking phone and small enough to slip into your pocket without noticing it's there. The screen is large and the graphics are wonderful. This phone gets great reception (I know this is due to the carrier and not the phone) and all calls sound very clear. It's comfortable on the ear and extremely light. The caller ID is just as most other cell phones. There is also a feature on the phone to block your number from caller ID.
There are tons of features with this phone and if I listed them all then this would be the longest review on Epinions. I will list some of the more important feature below.
All in all, this phone has turned me into a big Samsung fan and I thing I will find it hard to go back to Nokia.
