Pros: Just like owning a minilab, excellent quality prints
Cons: Expensive supplies, a little slow, noisy, size limitation on prints, drivers could use more functions
The Bottom Line: If you really want your prints to look good and can deal with the 4x6 size limitation and its minor quirks, get this printer.

| mike09785's Full Review: Sony Digital Photo Printer DPP-EX5 Dye Sublimatio... |
When I first saw this printer, I could not help but ask myself if it would be just like the other "photo" printers I had before. The Photosmart 1215, even with its high resolution, still left something to be desired. So I peeked on the 'net and found a few reviews, and finally made the decision to buy this printer. I was, needless to say... not impressed with Sony's decision to leave out a free print pack of some sort... after all, Sony's print packs cost about $15 for a 25 sheet box (about 60 cents a print). Don't get me wrong, this is still cheap considering ink rolls are included, but kept me waiting to print. Also, you will be waiting for your prints. Pictures take about 90 seconds to print on 4x6 paper, plus spooling time. Aside from that and the facts that this printer has a size limitation on prints of 4x6 (postcard), and makes a sound reminiscent of shrink wrap going over a package, my cons pretty much end there. The print quality is unbelievable. I had to experiment with the saturation and brightness/contrast a little bit to get it perfect, because otherwise there is simply too much radiance in the picture. This is not really a con, because it shows how true to life colors are on this printer compared to inkjets. The fact that the prints are waterproof adds to my list of raves about this printer. Also, I must say that the user interface wasn't really brought up in any of the other reviews. Okay, so I lied, one final rant. You can't use any of the menu/user interface functions or the memory stick slot when the input selection is set to PC. The drivers do not include any of these facilities, even though they aren't needed because you can just use your favorite photo editing software to make revisions, and a lot of PCs nowadays come with Memory Stick readers already installed. However, the drivers that come with this printer are very stable and also very easy to install. Windows recognized it very quickly and without incident. All in all, I must say that if you're looking for lab quality prints without leaving your home, definitely check into this printer.
