The Bottom Line Finding lost money can be a thrill! I haven't found any with my name yet...but I'll keep looking!
This is NOT a gimmick. This is the "ONE and ONLY FREE search and resource site for the over $35 billion of unclaimed money and property held by U.S. State and Federal government agencies. At the National Unclaimed Property Database, there are "no sign-up fees" (although you will be asked to sign-in), "no search fees," "no recovery or contingency fees," -- "no costs whatsoever!" All that is required is to enter into http://NUPD.com into your browser and you're on your way! When you get to the Home Page, you will be asked whether you are a new visitor (Step #1), or a returning member (Step #2). This is where new visitors are asked to sign-up for free! You'll also notice a myriad of other information on the Home Page including Member Services (a brief history of unclaimed property and what it is, FAQ's, a Help Desk, an Affiliate Program), and Corporate Information. After answering a few brief questions, you will be taken to the Free Search page. Just type in the Last name or Business name in the top box, then a First name or Initial in the second box. Hit the "search" button and in a matter of seconds, you will learn whether a listing exists for the chosen name. A table will come up showing the first ten results in alphabetical order including "last known" information such as state and street address. In most cases, the cash value will also appear. If you are reasonably certain that you are the claimant of certain money and/or property, you should click further for a more detailed report. Another table will appear listing the Asset Number, Agency Name, and Property Description. You will then be able to navigate to the agency's contact information to request a claim form. Doesn't that sound simple? It is! (Although I did not personally find any money, I did locate an "undisclosed" amount belonging to a good friend's mother -- she has a rather unique first and last name, so the search was easy!) |
