Has scouring powder become superseded, a thing of the past? You would certainly think so because of all the new specialized products coming out disinfectant wipes, grease removers, spot removers and even magical sponges!
Well, I dont think scouring powder has been superseded by all these specialties. Instead, theyve been improving the product. At least I know that the Proctor & Gamble Company has been working on this.
Ive always preferred Comet® Cleanser. Im not sure why, except that other cleansing powders seemed to burn my hands or leave blue marks on my sinks, or scratch something that shouldnt have been scratched.
Comet® Cleanser is a green powder that never scratches, burns, or leaves a residue after youve used it.
How has it improved?
The main thing is that Comet® now has disinfecting power because they have added bleach to the product. I dont remember that it every advertised this feature before.
It is supposed to bleach tough mildew stains. I dont have any mildew stains so I cant report on the truth of this statement, but Im inclined to believe it
But, now, when you clean your sinks, tubs, or toilet bowls with Comet® cleanser, you can be assured that its not only removing grime, but its also getting rid of those nasty germs that bug us so!
I cant notice any bleach smell when I use Comet®, just a faint clean aroma, and I dont have any stinging on my hands, so adding bleach hasnt affected it adversely.
Using Comet® MultiRoom Cleanser with Bleach
The secret to using this cleansing powder is WATER. Be sure to wet down the sinks, tubs, etc. that you use it on. Then apply the cleanser, rubbing with a wet cloth or sponge, until youre satisfied that the item is clean. If you want to disinfect, merely leave it on for a few minutes before you rinse the residue down.
On porous surfaces, like imitation marble sinks and plastic and enameled surfaces, use even more water to assure that you wont mar the surface.
I use Comet® on my imitation marble bathroom sink with great results. Id always been told not to use dry cleansers on it, but Comet® hasnt scratched it yet, and does a fine job of cleaning it, removing hair color spots and even some rusty spots.
Warnings
As Ive mentioned in other reviews, we should always read the products labels before even using them.
The Comet® Cleanser label tells us that this could be harmful to eyes, harmful if swallowed, and/or could be irritating to sensitive skin unless you wear gloves. It also says not to use in toilets along with other products.
Final remarks & recommendation
One thing I love about Comet® is that its also available in a yellow plastic container, besides the normal cardboard cylinder with aluminum ends.
Quite a while ago, I saved a couple of these yellow plastic Comet® cans and Id remove the red top (which is a flip-top) and fill it from the other container. I liked it because theres no chance of rusting, and I loved the flip-top lid.
The normal containers have holes in the top which are revealed by pulling back a label. Im sure youre all familiar with this type of can.
Those yellow containers disappeared from the shelves for quite a long time, but Ive noticed that theyve reappeared lately and thats good news.
I admit that a can of Comet®, (17-25 oz. -- less than $1.00) lasts me longer than it used to. I do use many of the newer specialized products, but I feel that when all else fails, grab the Comet®.
There are certain spots and stains that nothing will remove, except scouring powder. Thats when I reach for the Comet® and I cant remember its ever failing me.
And for porcelain sinks and tubs, I have yet to find any product that does a better cleaning job than Comet® does.
So if youre looking for a good cleanser, that is SAFE to USE, PLEASANT to USE, & EFFECTIVE to USE, buy a can or two of this wonderful cleanser, Comet® MultiRoom Disinfectant Cleanser with Bleach.
Youll be glad you did. Thanks for reading my review.
