I have had AT&T for over a year now. I signed my second contract this past January. Some people don't like the idea of having to sign a contract stating that you will remain with this provider for a year. Well, I don't like it either. However, I do like AT&T. I get good reception, the plans are affordable, and the customer representatives are friendly and helpful.
My calling area covers all of Pennsylvania, as far west as Columbus, Ohio, and half of West Virginia. Some of my friends have other providers like Verizon and Nextel. Their phones don't work in the South Hills or Slippery Rock. I do lose service in valleys. This is only a problem because I live in one.
I suggest getting a plan with more minutes than you will ever use. For a few months, I had bills over $100 because I was going over my plan. I increased my minutes and have no problems now. AT&T doesn't always have free nights and weekend plans available. If on sign up this is the case, call the 1-800 number at least once a month. It's a quick call that has the possibility of getting you the service plan you want. That's how I got my free nights and weekends. The contract only states that you will stay with AT&T. The plans are entirely up to you and can be changed at any time.
I've called the 1-800 number numerous times. It's a convenient way to change service plans. The customer representatives are friendly and very helpful. They can access your account and average how many minutes you use in order to suggest a plan. I found this to be very helpful and a nice touch.
I intend to stay with AT&T for as long as possible. I have no problems with them. Voice mail, call waiting, and caller ID are standard freebies. The service, plans, and representatives help to make AT&T better than their competitors.
