As I paid my monthly bills recently I realized that I needed to reorder checks for not one, but both of our checking accounts. I noticed that both of the accounts had fliers that pointed to CheckReorderExpress.com for easy reordering. I had the opportunity to use their service twice in the last month, and I am happy to say that I have never had a simpler experience fulfilling my check orders.
What is Check Reorder Express.com?
When you visit the website of CheckReorderExpress.com you will notice that they are run by Clarke American check company. Clarke American is a well known check design company with a ton of design choices to choose from. Their reputation gave me confidence in reordering online with sensitive checking account numbers at stake. I was also comforted to note that they have SSL security technology and are Verisign members.
The Easiest Ordering Ever?
The main home page of CheckReorderingExpress.com is a simple affair consisting of security policies, some new offerings and the reorder box. All you need to do to get started is to enter your account's routing and account number into the form. If you have changed your name or address on your account, the website will direct you to order directly from your bank. If everything is unchanged you are almost done!
Selection and Price
CheckReorderExpress.com shows you the current check design you have, and allows you to quickly reorder that or browse through tons of selections for a new design. On one account I reordered the same boring institutional checks because they were free except shipping. For the other account I decided to browse and get something new. The choices should allow something for everyone, hobbies, cartoon characters, patriotic, animals, colleges and so on. I opted for Spongebob Squarepants that also came with free pre-printed address labels.
Next, you choose whether to have duplicate checks or not, and in what quantity. The website does attempt to package several things together such as checkbook covers, address labels and so on in a "value pack", but ordering just plain old checks is also possible.
The prices vary by check type; duplicate or single, and the quantity ordered, as well as the design chosen. I found the prices to be right in line with the rates offered directly from my bank the last time I ordered with them.
Shipping
Shipping options are quite varied and the price is adjusted according to the speed of delivery. For one order I selected 4 day delivery (as I was almost out of checks), and for the other I chose plain Standard.
Overnight A.M.: Next business morning before noon
Overnight P.M.: Next business day
2-Day Delivery: 2 business days
4-Day Delivery: 4 business days
Ground Expedited: 3-5 business days
First Class: 3-5 business days
Standard: 7-10 business days
Despite different methods selected, both orders came via USPS and were very promptly delivered. The checks were error free and in the proper quantity as well.
Finally, once the browsing is completed you submit your order and it is debited directly from your checking account. No payment is made via the website. The only downside to this entire process, is that their is no final total given once you've ordered.
This could be a real detractor for some customers, but I didn't find it to be a deal-breaker, just an annoyance.
The Final Wrap-Up
The order placement is followed by an e-mail summary of the order. The summary contains a link to the website to check your order status and shipping dates. Again, absent are any order totals. All in all, this is a plain, no frills site, with one of the simplest ordering processes I've ever encountered online. If they could get an order total to appear with the summary, I'd happily give them 5 stars, as it stands now, they get a hearty recommendation, and 4 stars for ease, fun and novelty.
