| pinkants's Full Review: Rubbermaid Hunter Green Twin Sink Dish Drainer 600... |
I have always washed dishes by hand. I'm not really sure why. I guess it was because my mother always did them that way, and it just stuck. Hmm...now that I think about it, I wonder if I'll even be able to operate a dishwasher (I can just imagine mountains of suds pouring out!).
Well, handwashing dishes requires a rack of some sort of place the wet dishes as I do not dry them immediately. The Rubbermaid Hunter Green Twin Sink Dish Drainer 6008 seems perfect for this job, even though I do not have a twin sink. I merely place this on my counter over a dish drainer tray.
Size
Unfortunately, I have very limited counter space, so I needed a drainer that was not too large. The 6008 is approximately 14.25 in x 12.5 in x 5.5 in, which is perfect for me. However, this is not very large and may not be very convenient for those who have large families.
Features
This drainer has a metal frame coated in plastic. For some reason, the corners of this drainer are "flattened" so it actually has eight sides. I am not sure as to the reason for this; perhaps this makes it easier to place in sinks and other places.
There are 13 (thirteen) plate holders located off-center. This leaves room on the other side for cups and other items that need to be stored flat. It also has a small, removable flatware cup (with drainage holes) that fits into a corner. The entire rack stands on four plastic "feet".
The one I have is a hunter green colour (matches the kitchen nicely!), but it also comes in white, beige, and blue mist (which is more or less clear).
Cleaning
There really is not much to clean as not much dirt lands on the wires. The flatware cup occasionally needs cleaning, and it is easily removable (you can also easily snap it back on). Lately, the "feet" needed some cleaning because it was standing in water that did not drain away completely from the drainer tray.
My experience
This drainer is durable and functional, though I wish it had some holders for cups. Since it is rather small, it is difficult to place large plates and glasses together. In general, you cannot place a large amount items on it, which can be inconvenient if you are cooking for more than two people. You will end up needing to wipe & dry as your wash.
It is, however, quite sturdy and does not tip over. After over a year of use, very little of the plastic coating is chipping away.
Lastly, at one point in the front, some wires are placed farther than usual resulting in a large gap. Occasionally, small items (such as my sauce dishes) will fall through, which can be annoying.
Recommendation
All in all, this drainer, albeit a bit on the small side, is sturdy, durable, and functional. It fits well with the space that I have, and would be good for one or two people.
