I make purchases online all the time and never have a problem. Tonight, I just attempted to place an order for a Refurbished HP Desktop CPU with Tiger Direct. I called in to verify if they in fact had the unit I wanted, which often refurb joints don't. I was absolutely apauled with the rudeness of their Customer Service. I started the order process, I went through the process of giving the salesman my name, address, phone, email, and credit card info. Then I was asked for the last 4 digits of my Social Security #. I asked why this was necessary, and I was told due to fraudlent purchases. Well I am not a criminal, and I told the salesman on the phone that. I don't give any part of my SS number when I buy something from Walmart, or any other business, online or not...EVER! With just all the info they have plus the last 4 digits of an SS is all an unscrupulas low paid sales person would need to bleed anyone's account dry! Usually when they want fraud protection, they ask for the Security Code on the back of the card, which is acceptable, and that is what the Security Code is there for. Tiger Direct did not. He said if I didn't want to give him the last four SS digits, I would HAVE to call back Monday Morning and speak with some 'Supervisor'. I told the dude NO F###IN WAY! Just cancel the order Completly! But, I then checked my bank, and they had IMMEDIATELY gotten access to the funds for the order which I cancled! Aditionally, the actual Shipping Costs on the CPU was $10 higher then advertized on epinions. If you don't feel like being treated like a criminal, don't shop at Tiger Direct!
