The Bottom Line Size affects the Division and Skill Level of the Team, make sure the size matters just as much in the classroom as it does with the sport.
When you play a sport, college size has everything to do with your desicion, at least it should. I have played soccer for over eight years. I've been on the Wisconsin ODP State Team and have gone to Regional Camp: I know a lot about it. I wanted to play college soccer, but I didn't know where. First, don't look for a school based on sport alone. That's never a good idea. Second, look through all the recruit letters that colleges have been sending. If you know you don't want a Division One school, through out the letters. But if you want to play on a Division One team, you're going to deal with a large school, mostly. You have more choices when it comes to Division Two and Three. I currently attend a Division Three School. I honestly can say that the skill level here is not comparable to what I had even played with in High School (granted I did sit the bench at the School that was rated #1 Nationally). I learned a lot from sitting that bench, and when I came out to show what I knew my freshman season, I was shocked. Some people had never played on a select league before! I realize that I come from the intense background. If you are a player who takes the game more for fun, and didn't start playing until your freshman year in high school, then Division Three may not be so bad. It's what suits you. If you go to a bigger school, you'll find that the sports teams, in general, are better since they have a larger group to select from. However, as I said before, don't only pick the school because of the sport and the Division, things can happen. At the end of my freshman season, I got my third concussion within the past two years. I am now unable to play soccer for a whole year. Any athlete who loves a sport to play for 8 solid years would understand. Now it doesn't matter what the soccer team is like, I can't play. So, take other factors into play when deciding on a school. Size does matter in the Division you play, and the level the team is at, but does the size also play a positive role in the classroom? |
