Opinion Summary
NewEgg.com; The Online Computer Superstore
by vemartin | Apr 20 '04
Once upon a time there was a website—we’ll call it Egghead.com—that sold computers and computer parts at fairly reasonable prices. This was way before the likes of Best Buy, CompUSA, and Circuit City started selling their wares on-line ...

i forgot to comment on this with my Quick review but also dislike the fact that newegg does not offer USPS, UPS takes to much time And Fed-Ex is a pretty decent price hike. I think the fastest I have ever seen UPS ship is 8 days, but I will see soon when my 1st new egg package arrives with "3 day select", sorry for the 100$ surcharge though, I would have Denyed the package and they would have had to ship it back to them.

New eggs the place to go (Reply to this comment)

I was introduced to NewEgg by my dad who was happy with them, I didn't order anything from them until recently when it was time to upgrade. Overall NewEgg has the best Laid out website of them all and the most competetive prices so far. a couple of days ago I ordered an XFX geforce 8800GS from them for only 149$, not bad for it only being out for 2 days, i just got online to look at it and show a friend and they jacked the price up to 169$ from 159$. Lucky me right? I used the coupon code Video010 for 10$ off the video card as well as the free shipping.

I would suggest to anyone who is looking for new computer parts to head over to NewEgg and look around, you won't regret it:)

Bye NewEgg (Reply to this comment)

A long time NewEgg business customer, I sadly say goodbye because you won't consider shipping via USPS to Hawaii, where I live and work. I can't continue to thrive with FedEX charges of $100 plus per order.

No connection with Egghead (Reply to this comment)

There is absolutely no connection to egghead. Newegg was founded by two asian guys in 2001. Please check your facts before making false statements.

I love NewEgg too. I've ordered thousands of dollars of stuff from them over the years and have never had a problem. They are even good with returns!

The old Egghead.com was bought out in the late 90s... I think it was bought out by Outpost.com or another big name franchise. Either way, outpost.com was bought out my Electronic Fry's a few years afterward.

The customer freebies with orders are great, and their pricing structure is top notch. Great review!

I do have one clarification on the review for you. I too thought that Newegg.com was an heir to the Egghead.com company after the debacle of their database being hacked and several million credit card numbers stolen. I had seen differing reports as to whether or not this was true, so I emailed Newegg and asked. Their response was the below:

'Dear Jason,

You are not the first person to question the connection between our two companies. There is no connection between NewEgg.com and the old EggHead Software. You wouldn't believe the volume of customers who write us emails declaring "EggHead is my favorite store!" or "I've been shopping with you since the old EggHead Software days." Huh? But seriously, there isn't any relation other than the fact that our names sound similar and may look so in writing, and that we both cater to computer users. It is evident though that they must have made some of their customers happy because they appear pleased to be shopping with them again, even though we must politely inform them that we are our own entity entirely.

Regards,

William Lazaro'

This is a common misconception, as you can see. Great review, and I just wanted to pass this along!
