"I Ripped Off Your Write-Off" W/O: It's All About the Music Redux

The Bottom Line All the listed bands are worth a listen.

Invited to a write off? ME? Ok here goes. Phixed and Sleestakk are hosting a music write off broadly about which songs you can relate to. Be sure to read the other contributors epinions, I'm sure you'll find their lists entertaining/informative.

I'm embarrassed to tell anyone I love this song and I blast it when it comes on the radio:
"America," by Neil Diamond. The chosen bard of the blue-haired betty's, this guy is classic (to some), elevating cheese to an art form.
-or-
"Islands In The Stream," by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rodgers.

Favorite moment at a music award show:
Steely Dan's nose thumbing to the music business with their acceptance speech at the rock and roll hall of fame. Elitist attitude aside, you have to respect how Steely Dan never cared about the business side of music, and never cared about winning any awards. I'm paraphrasing, but their speech consisted mostly of "Thank you. Everything we want to say right now, we've said on our website, so we'd like to open the floor up to questions."
"When are you guys touring again?"
"We'd like to request that you ask easier questions."

This song makes me feel cool while I'm driving:
It's not fair to have only one of these songs, so I put the runners up too. I definitely don't look cool, but I feel cool when listening to "Cosmonaut" by At The Drive-in. Gyrations and irresponsible driving never felt so right....
-or-
"The Road To Financial Security," by Cursive. Rawk.
-or-
"The New Noise," by Refused. Holy crap, that song's tough!

This one brings up painful memories:
"Torch Singer," Buffalo Tom. This song is the track that the album gets it name from, "Big Red Letter Day." Unbeknownst to me, I was having one myself. I’d get the bad news later and not be able to listen to the song to this day.

Favorite song about sex, booty calls, or anything trashy:
“The Good Life,” by Weezer. “Shaking booty, making sweet love all the night.”

Funniest Song:
Again, this one is not fair to just pick one.
"Robot Parade," by They Might Be Giants. This group makes lots of funny songs, but this rarity is great if only for the solo that the robot plays. "In a future time children will work together to build a giant cyborg."
-or-
"Buddy Holly" - The Moog Cookbook. All Moog renditions of your favorite mid-90's songs. Genius.

I'd be listening to this on my way to commit a crime
"Red Right Hand," by Nick Cave. ‘Nuff said.

I can't stand this artist or group:
I'm taking the high road on this one. Of course all the boy bands suck, but Celine Dion makes me physically nauseous. I know it's not healthy but saying that I have a violent distaste for her understates it.
Honorary mention - Soulcracker from VH1's Bands On The Run (no wonder they never win an episode).

I'd donate a lung (or at least an appendix) to be alone with this singer:
No one's worth it. Maybe Celine Dion, so I could slap her in the face with a mop.

Biggest Disappointment following a hit record:
Ok, this isn’t a “hit” record in the traditional sense, but Slapstick’s “Lookit,” was one of the best ska albums of the early-mid 90’s. These guys were all 15-18 years old, and were heralded by many as the best ska band in the country at that time. The letdown? Like all great bands, they broke up; no second album.

This song made me cry (or close):
"Never Meant" by American Football. I feel all emo when I listed to this band.

And the loser award goes to.....
Chad Channing, the original drummer from Nirvana. Quitting shortly before the band recorded “Nevermind,” and effectively jumping off the gravy train to money and celebrity gives Chad the hands down distinction of the loser award.

Coolest thing ever done by an artist or group:
Although formed by "the man," Pearl Jam, like anyone that gets too big for their britches, turned on the man and bit that massive Ticketmaster hand. Or maybe I should say Lou Reed's album, Metal Machine Music...........

Thanks for the invite Phixed & Stakk.
