A Home Cooked Meal

The Bottom Line Buy expensive pieces if you want something to last.
Cheap Is OK At Yard Sales:
I wish Epinions had been around when my husband and I first got married.I didn't have a clue on what to do.Now,after five years a picture is coming together. In my experience if the cookware is real cheap it falls apart.Do not under any circumstances buy a cheap piece unless it is like a quarter at a yard sale. The coating comes off quickly and you have "peppered" food without pepper.(Gross)(Cast iron is a good deal if you want inexpensive)
A Large Variety:
I find I use my skillets the most, therefore needing several sizes.Especially a big one for those Hamburger Helper days.I like cast iron just because it is sturdy.I have heard that cast iron adds iron to the meal that is cooked in it ,though I do not know this for fact. The down side to cast iron is the care you have to give your pieces. It is not good to wash them in a dishwasher and if you do not dry them as soon as you wash them ,they rust.
Secondly,I like to have plenty of pans and pots ranging in size.It is good to have a pot that is at least 3 quarts to boil your spaghetti in.You will find that having 3 different sizes in all your untensils is helpful.
A good thing to keep on hand is a cookie sheet.Even if you don't see yourself baking cookies, these are necessary for heating up bread and store bought pizzas. This is probably going to be one of your favorite pieces of cookware. You will need a deep dish pan for stuff like lasagne.
Some other things you will need are a can opener(I prefer electric),mixer, and blender. The mixer and blender come in handy more than you might think.I haven't found price to be a big factor in quality with these three items.
Keep measuring equipment,a candy thermometer, and other utensils around.I am a home cook. So,if you are going fancy in the cooking department, then this advice may not be helpful for you. However there are lots of opinions on this subject at Epinions.com.
OH WAIT! Do not forget a strainer for your noodles and fruit washing.Wow,I would flake without a strainer.
