| sinsinnatis's Full Review: EchoStar 2700 Digital Satellite System |
If you found this opinion that probably means you've been thinking about getting satellite television. First off, the facts; there are now only two satellite companies: Dish Network and DirecTv. DirecTv is owned by Hughes and General Motors, so it is not just interested in the satellite sector of its business. Dish Network is only a satellite company and nothing else.
1. Customer Service:
From what I've heard from friends who've had DirecTv, the customer service is terrible, most of the time you can't get in touch with DirecTv for hours or days. The same can be said for a lot of cable companies, who are struggling right now (and failing) to keep up with satellite television. Dish Network's customer service has always been easy to reach and helpful to me.
2. Who should get satellite TV?
Getting Dish Network can save you a lot of money if you want to get 1 or 2 TVs hooked up, but if you want more it might be costly. So I recommend the system to anyone who wants 1 or 2 TVs hooked up or can handle only that amount hooked up. The boxes are not like cable boxes, they are more intricate and have more features, therefore they cost more.
3. Should I get DirecTv or Dishnetwork?
Dishnetwork's bills are lower than DirecTv's for the same channels. The only reason you might want to get DirecTv is because they offer a sports package that Dish Network doesn't have at this time. That package is not exactly cheap though, but if you really love sports you might want it. I've had DirecTv before Dish Network, and I prefer the Dish Network system I have now.
4. What are the benefits of the Dish Network system?
-Because it is through satellite, the picture on your TV will be digital and perfect.
-Dish Network can give you more channels for your money than cable or DirecTv could. For instance, my old cable bill was over 50 bucks a month and I got maybe 80 channels. With Dish Network my bill is around 40-50 dollars and I get more than 150.
-There's an on-screen menu telling you whats on and what will be on which is very helpful.
-There is a "info" button on the remote that comes with the system. When you push it it will tell you information about the show or movie that is playing or going to play on that certain channel. The information it tells you is the time it starts and ends, a description of the program, the actors involved, the year made, and what its rated.
-You'll be able to get channels you might not able to get through your cable service like M2, TVland, the international history channel, and many international channels (ex: the spanish Gems network, TV Japan, etc.)
-There's tons of choices for pay-per-view events and movies.
5. How can I buy the system?
A limited type of DirecTv systems are sold in a lot of stores and you would have the responsibility of finding an installer to set it up. Dish Network does not sell them in stores like DirecTv. If you call Dish Network's number they could give you the telephone numbers of Dish Network installers in your area, who could then tell you about specials. I do not recommend trying to put up a satellite yourself, it is dangerous and difficult. The installers have been trained for years to do this.
For more info you can call Dish Networks number (I will put it up when I can find it) or check out their website at

Hope this has been helpful!!
