Don't make the same mistake I did... think about more than the education...

The Bottom Line Find a price range and work from there... and have the student pay, they will take it more seriously!

First of all, the best way for your child to appreciate his college education is to have them pay for it. They can try for as many scholarships and grants to help them out, but loans that are subsidized or even unsubsidized will get them through school. I am currently paying for my college education.

I may not go to class every day, but I know that I'm wasting my own money. I have learned time managemet while being at school.

Anyways, just had to establish that first. How to pick a college. Decide what price range you have. If you really love a school, everything about it, but it's $50,000 a year, and you can't afford that, forget about it.

If there is a really cheap school but it also has a low reputation, don't go there either. Pick a school that will have your major, interest in study. That is most important.

Visit every college that you apply to. Find a price range that fits you. If you find a great school that is expensive, but you know you will come out of college with a great salary, don't worry as much about the cost.

But getting away from the money aspect, find a school that offers things to do. For example, I attend a school that is small, but it is also in a small town. There is nothing really to do. Needless to say, I'm transferring to another school, where there is more to do in and outside of the college itself.

So, find a school where you will feel comfortable. That basically is the most important thing. It will take about 3 months to feel "at home," but you should attend a school that you fall in love with.
