| neverfated's Full Review: Samsung SGH-X426 |
My previous cell phone was a Nokia 8265 (http://www.epinions.com/content_82052943492). It was a wonderful phone in a nice indestructible package. My requirements when I got that phone didn't include aesthetics though. So this phone had to meet the standards set by the Nokia and be sexy to boot.
Appearance:
The Samsung x426 is hands down the most attractive cell phone I have ever owned. The styling of the x426 is perfect because I wanted a phone that wouldn't embarrass. Too often I see phones that are overly colorful, have excessive blinking lights, or have an ugly camera attached to it. You won't find any of that here. The entire phone is silver in color with only a single metal strip that shines. The design is simple yet elegant.
Reception:
Suprisingly good. I was reluctant to switch to GSM. It is (in the NYC area at least) still not as reliable as TDMA, but I wanted a national plan so I had to take this route. The reception I get from the x426 is really quite exceptional. The majority of my friends have ATT with GSM service and a good variety of phones. Usually, I am the one who ends up making phone calls when we're in a group because my phone has the most reliable reception.
Battery Life:
This is the only phone I've ever had, that has such a large discrepency is battery life when using the headset and not. While using the headset, I can easily get six to seven hours of talk time at a minimum (the call logs show it). Without the headset, I think I am lucky to get one and a half to two. Since this is my primary phone, I end up using the headset very often. (Back to reception for a second: I was able to maintain a call for close to 4 hours while working on a project at home in the burbs without losing connection) It takes about an hour to fully charge the phone.
The little things:
-The phone seems to be very durable. My girlfriend sat on it once against a hard seat. I've also dropped it a few times
-It's hard to scratch, I keep it in my pocket with keys. When you do scratch it, it's probably a deep scratch and those are very noticeable
-The buttons feel great
-I can flip it open very easily with one hand
-It functions very well using only one hand
-The interface is pretty and easy to use
-Three different alarms, Once, Daily, and Morning Call (self explanatory)
-You can't see who is calling because there is no display on the lid
-You can setup your phone to ring differently for each group of people
Everything else:
I won't go into specs, because you can easily find that at Samsung.com.
I'm also not going to write about the To Do List, the Games, or anything like that. I don't use them. It would be easy enough to flip through it and write something up, but that would be unfair to you.
Annoyances:
Can't think of any yet.
Reasons to get this phone:
You want one that works
You want to feel like an adult when holding a cell phone
You want a small phone
You want a phone that won't look dorky in a year
Reasons not to get this phone:
You want a camera phone
You like using your phone to surf the mobile web
You hate flip phones
You want a trendy phone
I compare this phone to the girl your parents would be proud to have you take home. Sophisticated but not snobby. Sexy but not slutty.
Please don't talk on the cell phone and drive =)
