I have to disagree with this post for the following reasons:
I live in a snowy area (Utah) and I soon realized that I did not want to scrape off my dish everytime it snowed. The previous post is correct in saying that snow blocks the signals. All you have to do is place the dish at ground level. I set a galvanized fence post (2" dia) into the ground about 8 inches, then poured post mix (cement) into the hole. The cement was almost set and I aligned the post using a bubble level. Now that the post was level, I installed the dish onto the pole. The dish sits about 5' off the ground. Note that your reception is NO BETTER up on a roof than it is on the ground.
Second item: I never have a problem with DTV because I order all my services online. No hassles, no sales people. That being said, the sales people have toned down due to some complaints. You have to remember that they make extra money selling HBO, SHOWTIME, etc. etc.
The previous author does have valid points, but DTV is really better than cable. My Comcast service I had was going out ALL the time. I installed DTV with TIVO and will never go back to cable.
I give DTV 4 stars for great service.
