The Bottom Line: It is very very hard yet if you are good at gaming you can have fun with this game. The graphics are great same with sound-extra-features-great
First off this game this is the hardest game made ever. Im not even exaggerating im being 100% truthful. The game is based in the future. I mean like 20,000 years into the future. It is a futuristic racing game where you race hover cars. There are about 30 cars in the game but you only start out with one. Another thing is that there are 30 cars in 1 race(I think that is a bit much). They also have 15 tracks which are rich in detail. They have a variety from oceans, to cities, or even the inside of a volcano!!!! This was the first F-zero game i ever played so I did not expect the difficulty.
Cars
Each car is somehow different then another car in the game, wether it be the wight or speed or whatever. First thing is That each car has a grade A,B,C,D, or E. E=worst A=best. The car gets a grade in body(how many hits you car can take before to blow up), boost(how much boost you get when you use the boost label on the track or push boost button), and Grip(how well your car handles). Then each car has its own weight. These cars are heavy I mean like the light cars are 700kgs(kilograms 1kilo=2pounds). The light ones are 700kgs the middle is like 975 or 1,000kgs and the heavy ones are about 1,500kgs. Here is a weight chart for the weight.
LIGHT-Acceleration good- Max Speed bad- grip good-cornering quick- impact of crash substantial.
HEAVY-Acceleration bad- Max speed good- grip bad-cornering bad-impact of crash minimal.
Before a race it will let you tweak your car. You can change wether you want your car to have more Max speed or better Acceleration within your range. Also and last before the race you can change the color of your car.
Gameplay
So like I said before you race in the future with hover cars. You race with 29 other computer cars in one race of 3 laps or you can set it for more. The cars will soar at speeds up to 2,000MPH. Yea you read write 2,000MPH!!!!! This game is the hardest game ever. The speed will makes it extremely hard to keep up with the track to know where you are going and to know when to turn. Also to add to the difficulty there are 29 other cars trying to kill you. Not to mention the sickeningly difficulty of the tracks(more later in Tracks section). The difficulty brought this game down from 5 stars to 3 ˝ stars. Also you have to try to knock the other guys off the track. You use the A button for gas and the B button for the brake. Then use the Z button to use the spin attack to knock your enemies of the track. The use the L and R buttons to do sharp turns around corners or to use the slide attack. There are pads or stips on the track that you drive over to charge up your boost meter so you can boost with the Y or X button. There are also strips on the track that give you an automatic boost. The fast speeds are a huge factor in the race. You also go off ramps which if you are not a master at racing games will fling you off the track. There it is again the difficulty. Then the racing is not very fun because of the difficulty. There is no balance in the difficulty it is all frustrating and not challenging. I mean in the circuit what is the point of winning the first four races when you will just lose all your lives on the one part on the last track and win nothing.
Tracks
As I said before there are 15 tracks to race on. Yet only about 10 or 11 of them are actually beatable for the average gamer and there are 2 that even a master gamer cant do. Let me explain: These tracks are the hardest tracks in the history of gaming. I mean it is hard to even finish some of the tracks, its that hard. There are ramps you go off and useless you or extremely skilled you will fly off the track. But the tracks are rich in detail and will catch your eye right of the bat. Some of the tracks are so beautiful it will distract you from your race at times. I mean every level looks very realistic like the ocean has a bright beautiful blue color, and the fire has a deep red. But it sucks in a way that the levels are beautiful because it catches your eye and when you cant even blink without missing something in the race which means the detail of the of the track will mess you up.
The Modes
One of the good things in the game is the variety of game modes. Here is a list of them and a description for each one.
Grand Prix Mode
Here you can compete in 3 circuits with 5 tracks each. They are ruby, sapphire, and emerald cups. ruby=medium sapphire=hard emerald=IMPOSSIBLE. You pick the cup you wanna play then you select the difficulty mode novice,normal, and hard. This is how far i got in circuit mode i did ruby cup in novice and normal and did sapphire in novice and could not do anything in emerald. If you try the hard level it is impossible because the enemies are 3x faster then you. Also it doesn’t matter about the difficulty on emerald cup because THE COURSE WILL KILL YOU!!! YOU WONT BE ABLE TO FINISH!!! Even sapphire cup is hard as heck in medium level!!! You also use this mode to get tickets to buy new stuff(will say more in shop mode section). This is the ONLY way to get tickets. That brings down the rating from 3 1/3 stars to 3 because it gets boring doing the same circuit in easy mode over and over again because you cant do any other difficulty or circuit because they are too hard. You get Tickets for finishing 1st 2nd or 3rd all together in the races. You get a certain amount of points each place you come in on each race and you add all the points up to get a score. That score tells what place you get in. To start a game it takes up 3 blocks for your name or profile.
VS mode
This is the made where you race against your friend which can be fun because you can shove it in your friends face when you knock them off the track. Yet I doubt your friend or you will be able to survive the track.
Time Trail Mode
This is the mode where you try to get the best time on the tracks if you can finish them that is. Also if you save your time you can race your ghost but the ghost takes up a lot of room in your memory card i mean it takes up 3-13 blocks Metroid Prime only takes up 1.That is MESSED UP.
Practice mode
The title is self-explanatory it is the place where you practice tracks. You can set the amount of computer players from 0 to 30. Also you can set the amount of laps. Also you can set if when you die do you come back or start over.
Story mode
The story is basic and boring. You are Captain Falcon(Good guy racer) which tries to stop evil racers. Then there is the main big badie which is Black Shadow who wants to kill Captain Falcon and his GF(girlfriend). So the story mode is as hard if not harder then the rest of the game. I mean it is so hard if you look in Nintendo Power Magazine Issue 180 June 2004 if you go to pages 28-31 3 out of 7 people say that beating story mode was the greatest challenge of the year. Look at the bottom right corner of page 30 Noa Chris says "Beating Story mode? Heck,try the second level!". That is how i can describe the difficulty. You can do each level or either normal or hard mode. The normal mode you can beat in about 20 maybe 25 tries. But hard mode is the HARDEST PART NOT JUST IN THE GAME BUT HARDEST IN VIDEO GAME HISTORY. I mean i don’t even think it is possible to beat it that is how hard it is. So you go through the levels and to different things like in one you have to race Black Shadow and beat him while rocks are falling from the sky which can kill you if you hit them. In another you have to catch up to cars then kill them then do it again and again until you get to Black Shadow who your actually trying to beat. Then beat him to the end which is a terribly hard task. Then here is a the catche you have to buy the story mode missions with tickets. You have to go to the shop and BUY the missions with tickets you get from winning at grand prix mode. It gets boring getting tickets because you can only beat like 1 maybe 2 circuits on novice mode so it starts to get boring. So sens you get bored of the only way of getting tickets you cant have tickets to buy the missions which is pretty much the only fun thing left to do.
Replay mode
This is where you view your replays you saved
Driver profile mode
When you buy a new car with some tickets(more later in customization section) it comes with its driver's profile. Its cool because each driver has his/her own storyline. They also each have thier own theme song(how cool is that!!). While in their profile you can check out their car and the stats and specs on thier car. When you look at the car you can rotate around it.
Customization mode
The final mode. I wouldn’t really call this a mode because this is where your garage, emblem editor, and shop is. First i will explain the shop. At the shop you can buy new cars for tickets, new parts so you can build you own car, and new missions for story mode. Now the garage. Here you can create and save the cars you make with the parts you buy in the shop. Yet saving your car takes up a lot of blocks I think it takes up 18 blocks!!!! Then in emblem editor mode you can make your own emblem(vinyl) to put on you car. You can like put you initials on the side of the car you make. All you have to do is put your initials on the emblem editor and save it and BAM you can put it on your car. There is a variety of colors to pick from so you can make just about anything. But like most of the game it takes up like 2 or 3 blocks on your memory. So if you add up all the blocks this game takes if you save 1 of everything it will take up 31 BLOCKS out of the 59 blocks the average memory card has HOLY COW!!!!!! That is more then HALF the memory card.
Graphics 9.8
The graphics are amazing in detail. The tracks are rich in detail with vivid colors. The background is eye candy. They look so fluent and real looking. It really helps you in imagining that you are there.
Sound 8.8
This is a very good soundtrack. The techno music really lets you feel like your in the future. Also the sound is great when you hear the boosters the sound actually makes it sound like the gaining speed at a rapid pace.
Fun 2.3
Here is where the good streak ends. It is more frustrating then challenging. It gets boring when you can only play about 2 circuits with the same difficulty NOVICE, and you need to play it so you can get tickets to make a car, buy cars, and to go forward in story mode. The difficulty is to high to have any fun. the only fun you will have is smashing thing from the frustration this game will give you. Yet the fun is looking at the rich tracks and killing your friend in multi-player mode.

The controls are great and they each match their cars differently and perfectly.

It is hard extremely hard but if you are a master gamer and if you can hack the gameplay it is kinda fun.

1 Plain reason it got a 6.3, Because It is hilarious to nail the your friends of the track and then laugh in their face.
Extra Features 8.9
The extra features are very cool you have the customization of your car, the emblem maker, and something that i didn’t mention before is that you can bring your memory card with your saved game to the F-Zero GX arcade machine and plug it in to it it will unlock new tracks and cars. Yet there is the challenge of finding a F-Zero GX arcade machine. You can also unlock 2 new circuits with with 10 new tracks .Also you can unlock a new difficulty mode.
Single player 4.8
Here this includes story mode and grand prix mode. The difficulty added alot into this also the fact of having to pay to move on in story mode gave this a 4.8
Overall: 6.8
It is fun if you can get past the extreme difficulty
