Preface:
We picked up the Swifter WetJet to clean our hardwood floor areas.... It seemed like a neat idea and easier than mopping.
Overview:
The Swifter WetJet is made up of a push-broom type assembly that has a changeable cleaning pad on the bottom and a cleaning fluid that squirts out in from of where you are cleaning. The fluid squirts out via a battery operated (AA Batteries) pump and a push button switch on the handle.
Use:
Simply put a bottle of fluid in the holder, insert the batteries, put on a cleaning pad and you are ready to go. Squirt some fluid out on your floor and mop over it with the cleaning pad.
The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly:
The good is that it seems like a good idea and is simple to use. The Bad is that you have to change that cleaning pad out several times each time you use it. The Ugly is that it caused damage to our hardwood floor finish.
So lets go over some of the Bad & the Ugly:
Changing out those pads is kinda of a pain. Not only that, but those pads and fluid are expensive for what they really are.
The Ugly is that it did cause floor damage to our hardwood floors that were just installed. They were pre-finished hardwoods and the Swifter WetJet stripped the finish off. Now I don't blame this entirely on the WetJet, because the floor finish should have been able to hold up to cleaning products without finish damage. Regardless, our floors now have finish fading and streaks all over them after using this product on them. So if you are going to try it on your floors, make sure to do a "test" spot a few times before going over the entire floor to make sure your floor won't be damaged.
How does it clean?
well, it doesn't really clean. you just push it around and it gathers up dust and shines up the floor. It's basically a squirt on polish and rag. If you want it really clean you really need to use a regular mop.
Would I buy it again?
well... "maybe".... It *might" be ok to use on plastic/vinyl flooring, but it still is a pain to have to keep changing those pads out. That and if you want it really clean you have to use a regular mop. So it might be ok for touch-ups, but not really for cleaning.
Summary:
Stick to a real mop for cleaning and doing it right.
