Pros: Good hearing protection that's a pleasure to use. Great radio.
Cons: Small control knobs and flimsy-looking AM-FM switch.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the Work Tunes AM/FM Stereo Hearing Protector to anyone using noisy tools in the shop or yard. It is hearing protection you will enjoy wearing.

| woscar's Full Review: WorkTunes AM/FM Stereo Hearing Protector |
I have some hearing loss due to the military and working in paper mills before hearing protection was required. Since the OSHA rules have been enforced, I learned not to allow further deterioration from continued exposure to persistent and/or loud noises. I have been using ear plugs for years now, even in my home shop. They're very effective, but a nuisance and must be removed to listen to the radio when the machinery is off.
The Work Tunes muffs address these problems. I now use them almost exclusively. The only time I return to the plugs is when the task at hand requires the use of a face shield. The headbands of the two safety devices simply aren't compatible. I often also use dust masks and safety glasses. Those devices have to go on before the muffs, but that's not a big problem.
The quality of the muffs was not a surprise, because I have used regular muffs made by A.O. Safety in the past and found them to be well made. The big surprise was the quality of the built-in radio. It's able to pull in stations that our other radios have difficulty with. We live in a rural area where the closest NPR stations (my favorites) are over 50-miles away. AM reception is also outstanding. The stereo and sound quality is surprisingly good. It matches the best of the personal radios with conventional headphones that I've tried.
The best hearing protection is protection that's actually worn. I wear my Work Tunes muffs even when I don't need hearing protection, because I enjoy them so much. The only problem comes when my wife tries to get my attention. So far, the original two AA batteries have not needed replacement and I've used them daily for over three months.
