Lose Your Southern Accent ..You Sound Ignorant!

The Bottom Line No, because we all have certain rights and if you take those rights from me you better watch your back for other rights to be taken from you.

This is basically a question of imposing your moral view on someone else. You are saying artists should be more responsible about the music they make. In group therapy circles this is called 'shoulding' all over yourself. You have some opinion on how people should act and get angry when they don't act in that manner. Perhaps if you were a songwriter or performer you would not act in what you consider a morally reprehensible fashion. The point, of course, is that the people making the music aren't you. You have little control over it. The problem is that you think you should have control over it.

Asking artists to censor their music to your liking is like telling a Southerner to lose their accent because your opinion is that they sound dumb. It is still just your opinion.

I have a point. Really, I do. But first, let me get something off my chest.

The folks screaming the loudest about making artists 'responsible' for their music are the same folks that support the NRA. What's up with that? Do all conservatives have to stick together? I don't get it. They want the right to own weaponry that can kill people but they don't want other people to have the right to sing about killing people. What's worse? Having the power to do it or talking about it?

I believe that self expression is a way of getting the evils out of you before they consume you, before the evils give you no choice but to act. Many songwriters use writing as a method of expelling these evil thoughts from their system. Other writers are telling a story as they see it. The way they experience life may not be the way you do, but their perception is still valid.

Asking anyone to change their form of self expression because you do not agree with it being a valid or constructive form of self expression is, IMHO, extremely close-minded. I personally believe that religion in most forms does more harm than good. If I were like the person trying to censor others then I would want churches and synagogues to be closed down and no religious music made and no crosses worn as charms and etc, etc, etc. Ah, but you say, god, religion, this is all good. There is nothing wrong or evil about it. You tell me that I cannot censor the way you choose to worship.

Very true, good point. Turn it around, you don't have the right the tell me how I should express myself either.

But you are right and I am wrong. Obviously I am right you say. I am on the side of what is good and moral and clean. And, you say, most people agree with me that this music is wrong. Majority rules.

Hitler and his followers thought they were right. Hitler and his followers were the majority. Our forefathers (American) thought slavery was kosher. They were also in the majority.

Majorities have a lot of power and they can do a lot of good. They can also do a lot of harm. The one thing that we have to remember is that the minority has rights too. We have certain basic rights and most of them are detailed in our glorious constitution. I have the right to free speech and you cannot take it away from me. If you do, imagine what inalienable right can be taken from you.

If you don't like what is in the movie theatres or on the radio or in the music stores, then don't patronize these stores or listen to the radio or go to the movies.
