Pros: Looks good. Cleans well. Not overly expensive.
Cons: Disappointing lack of scent. Doesn't contain antifreeze.
The Bottom Line: Windex Mountain Berry is a good glass cleaner and won't disappoint unless you buy it for the scent.

| nagels's Full Review: Windex Glass Cleaner Mountain Berry Scent |
They call him Spudman, the ultimate tightwad, pockets fat with discount coupons, padlocked wallet laden with moths, his thoughts always of great deals, sales of a lifetime, and money saving schemes. Over twenty years ago he noticed that his also thrifty father-in-law used the blue automobile window cleaner as his household window cleaner.
Spudman adopted the idea as his own and ever since has bought the stuff by the gallon, usually on sale, and poured it into an empty Windex spray bottle, much like he refills his designer brand water bottle with tap. Hes experienced no other window cleaner in the ensuing years and never realized the shortcomings of this inexpensive blue liquid.
Recently while trolling the aisles of Food Lion with sales brochure and a handful of coupons, Spudman spied Windex products on sale. He had never noticed such window cleaners, in such a wide array of flavors, in so many colors, in such a variety of reincarnations. The original blue was there, but so was a purple Mountain Berry Windex, a Multisurface Sparkling Orange Windex, a Multi-Surface with Vinegar Windex, an Antibacterial Windex, a Foaming Windex, a No Drip Windex, an Outdoor Windex, and an array of other items with the Windex logo.
Spudman, his eyes glistening in amazement at all the choices, finally decided to try Mountain Berry Windex. He liked its Kool Aid pale purple color and was intrigued by the possibilities of the Mountain Berry scent. The 26-ounce spray bottle felt good in his hand. On the bottles tapered neck are comfortable indentations for the fingers. At the end of the nozzle is a rotating safety control that allows the user to turn the spray on or off. Nice touch, he thought. Wouldnt want to experience a premature spray. He shuddered at the thought. After all, on the product's label is this ominous warning, KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS.
WHATS IN IT?
Windex Glass and Multi-Surface Cleaners contain detergents, solvents, fragrance, Ammonia-D and alcohol. Dont use these on surfaces for which an ammonia cleaner is not recommended. Instead use Windex with Vinegar or the Windex Sparkling Orange.
A Material Safety Data Sheet from the National fire Protection Association (NFPA) on Windex Glass Cleaner states that Windex contains 2-butoxyethanol, ethylene glycol hexyl ether isopropyl alcohol and water. The report states that Windex is not a source of known acute health effects and does not advise of any special ventilation or personal protection precautions.
One should avoid eye contact, even though its difficult not to look at that pretty purple color.
Windex should be stored in a dry, cool, and well ventilated area, protected from freezing, and kept out of the reach of children.
SPUDMANS FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE AND APPLICATIONS
EXPERIENCE - Spudman mostly used Windex in the bathroom. He sprayed the mirrors, the wall tiles, the glass shelves, the porcelain fixtures and was impressed by the ensuing sparkle and the dirty paper towels. The mirrors especially had a clarity that had been lacking for decades. Unfortunately the clean mirror verified what he has suspected for years, the sparse crop of hair on his head. For a moment Spudman wasnt sure that he liked having a streakless, clear mirror.
The cleaning power of this product was impressive but not its barely discernible scent. Spudman still isnt sure how Mountain Berry is supposed to smell.
Buoyed by his newly discovered cleaning prowess, Spudman ventured outside the bathroom with his new plaything. He sprayed his computer desk and its artificial wood grain and walked away with a dirty paper towel, a shine and a smile. Shelves, file cabinet tops, CD cases, clock faces, picture glass, door handles, Subaru dashboard, even a few of his Mr. Potato Heads felt the Windex spray with equally positive results. Amazingly it also did a wonderful job on windows! As an ultimate challenge Spudman tried cleaning a pair of old, dirty sneakers with the purple cleaner. They still looked old, but there was a definite improvement.
APPLICATIONS - Applications for becoming a Spudman groupie can be obtained by emailing Spudman himself.
CONCLUSION Windex Mountain Berry Glass Cleaner is an inexpensive, A+ cleaner with a myriad of uses. Its relatively safe to use and produces great results. Its pretty purple color is appealing, but its disappointing scent is faint and short lived. Windex Mountain Berry is certainly worth a shot, or at least a spray.
UPDATE - On June 4, 2006 I finally finished this bottle of Windex after using it at least once a week. Now I'm ready to try a new flavor of Windex.
