Not worth it unless you are a die-hard fan

Written: Mar 19 '01
Pros:Illustrated. Chewgumma the Kookie
Cons:Utterly moronic near the end. Very meandering.
The Bottom Line: Don't bother unless you feel a compulsive need to read the whole series.

The original Bill The Galactic Hero ranks in my favorite comic SF of all time collection. I recently picked up the remainder of the series and I have to say that this one is the worst of the batch. At first, sending up Star Trek, Star Wars and numerous other SF legacies was hilarious. The hilarity soon turned into boredom though. The authors took it a few steps too far and drew it out too long. In addition, repeatedly yanking Bill through space and time for no apparent reason was fun at first but again, grew stale in repetition. I'm a person that normally reads a book cover to cover in one or two sittings. I found myself bored enough with this book that I read 17 others in between finishing it. If you are a die-hard fan and a glutton for punishment, pick it up. You'll get a few laughs out the the Star Trek/Star Wars stuff. Otherwise, skip it and read the others in the series.... you aren't missing anything crucial here.
