U2 are the greatest live band on the planet. Every music fan owes it to themselves to see U2 live at least once in their lives.

Thanks for the kudos. I didn't take a notebook, as I have at other gigs, because I didn't want to have to mess with it between songs. I found the set-list the next day at U2.com and that triggered my memory. Back in '93 I was lucky enough to be leaning on the mini-stage at the end of the catwalk - it certainly is fantastic to be so close. That show was actually filmed and released as Zoo TV Live From Sydney, and there are several points during the show where I can see myself on screen.

Thanks again for reading and for the praise.

Cheers,

Great observations & feel... (Reply to this comment)

This is spectacular, right down to every detail ... your memory must be fantastic - or you carried a notebook to remember the entire set list so well... even when seeing my favorites, my brain gets a little fuzzy from all of the excitement.

U2 was my first concert back during the Joshua Tree tour, and yes, it was something I'd never forget. It was a big arena and the seats were up up and away, behind the stage - you could still see all of the guys, but they rarely played to the people in the back ... just a few glances over their shoulder every now and again. But it sounds like they've really learned to play in the round over the years, now haven't they?

During the ZooTV tour, just 15 rows back we were right next to the catwalk like platform that reached out into the audience, and they did about a 20 minute acoustic jam 2 feet away from me. I could actually see Bono's sweat - I swear I almot fainted.

Sorry! Rambling on ... memories you know!

I did like this review because I pretty much refuse to see big arena rocks shows anymore because it's just not worth it to be stuck behind things - way in the back - etc etc - but you've truly proven in this review, it's not where you sit that determines what you get out of a concert!

thanks!

Don't make me feel old, you young whippersnapper! I'll take you over my knee!

(Those were my college days, and I'd just stumbled on U2 and The Alarm.)

I'm going to see them in June at the MCI Center for the first time and your review just made me that much more excited to go. I can't wait!

Sumo,

It is rumoured that the lads will be returning to the States after their European tour - perhaps as early as this Fall. I urge you to go see them. I would have loved to see them on the Unforgettable Fire tour. I first saw U2 in '88 on the tail end of their Joshua Tree tour. I think the Unforgettable Fire era was a great period of transition for U2, and I really wish I had been into the band then. I was only 12 in 1985 though, so my musical ignorance at the time is, I think, excusable!

I wanted to go to that show, but we had already committed to something else.

My wife saw U2 at Reunion on the Unforgettable Fire Tour.

You are still in the fine state of Texas then??
Glad to hear it, so our paths are more likely to cross.
