The Bottom Line: Great Printer and will do all you expect of a Home Printer.

I can't say enough about this printer. It is loaded with enough power and goodies to make Xerox jealous. Well to start I have had mine for about a month now and use it extensively for printing from my digital camera. The quality of the prints are excellent with no difference from a standard 35mm print taken to a photo lab. You can print in 3 mediums (Black and white, Sephia, and Antique) other than color as well. The printer is also equipped with two drives to accept both compact flash and smart media cards so you can print directly from the cards and skip downloading to your computer.

The setup is extremely easy and it comes with drivers for both PC and Mac users and it is quite simple to operate. After a couple tries (I skipped reading the manual) I was printing 8x10's and 5x7's (you can print sizes as small as 2 1/2 x 3 1/4 to 8x10) like a pro. The button layout is easy to follow and actually self-explanatory Hp did a nice job on the lay-out. Sadly to say I have yet to take advantage of its infra-red capabilities but hope to soon (my laptop is a little old).

As it has such laudable capabilities printing photos one would expect it to handle regular day-to-day printing with ease and it does. Printing is smooth, fast, and quiet. The 1218 also comes with the dual-side printing attachment which does exactly as it sounds by allowing you the option to print to both sides of the paper.

So far the only problem I have experienced is the fact that on occasion the printer loses its connection to the computer but after re-installing the software I haven't experienced any problems so it was probably an error on my part originally.

Well I recommend this printer to anyone who has a digital camera and loves to print their own photos or does alot of regular day-to-day printing as this printer is more than able to handle the most demanding jobs.
