| tannman1's Full Review: Antec LifeStyle Sonata ATX Mid-Tower Case |
Upgrades can either be a fun experience or a nightmare. It was becoming the latter as I had not purchased a case in quite some time and was finding out that power supplies being included were not the norm but blinking neon lights are??(What are they thinking?)The Sonata by Antec caught my eye. Lets go under the hood for a closer look, you'll see what they were thinking...quality and silence.
Specs:
The case is classified as a Super mini tower that is powered by a 380 watt ATX 12V power supply (Yes it's running and it's very very quiet) The main cooling responsibility is achieved by a single 120mm low speed fan with an additional mount for a second if needed but chances are you will not. As far as real estate the Sonata offers a total of 9 drive bays as follows: 3 external 5.25" bays with rails stored on the rear of the face plates (nice), 2 external 3.5" bays that slide out for easy mounting and 4 internal 3.5" which individually slide out AND each has rubber grommets at the mounting points for further noise reduction!(Ingenius) A front port panel for 2USB,2 audio and 1 IEEE1394 firewire is tucked between two blue accent lights, the vents are obscured as to further reduce noise and finally a built in washable air filter(WOW I have 5 cats) The case itself is "Piano Black" and 16.75" high x 8.125" wide x 18.25" deep and weighs 20 lbs. Access to the inside is by a lockable side panel and the front also has a swing lockable door that hides the power and reset buttons and your 5.25" and 3.5" hardware.
The power connectors internally allow you to connect all your hardware including the new serial ATA drives.
Design wise the case looks sleek in it's shiny black but fringerprints show up easy. In this age of sleek neon the case has added 2 blue design accent lights that look cool with the front design.
My only issue and it's not really a problem with the case is that at times the side panel can be a pain in the neck to replace but I suspect it's more me then the case.
If your looking for a well built quality case that was designed for easy access to all your hardware then I urge you to strongly consider the Antec Sonata. You can visit Antec at http://www.antec-inc.com Retail price aprox $129.00
