A generation gap between siblings...

The Bottom Line I think that a little to no TV is a good amount, thank you.

My experiences with the TV have been few and far between. For my younger siblings however, with a gap of ten years between us, the difference is huge. They've been watching TV since they were very little, mostly because my parents have not had the extensive time to devote to them as we had. I don't like the differences between me and my younger brothers and sisters.

When I was young, I read. Because we did not have cable, I dragged my Dad's hardy boys series from the attic and devoured the whole thing. I read everything, and loved doing it. I still read like a maniac today.

While my little sister reads a lot, she still spends most of her time in front of the TV set. She is picking up things from it that I do not like, like Brittany Spears mannerisms. I do not want her acting like most of what I see-to me there is another, freer world of possibility and romanticism that comes from reading. You can hold a book in your hands, make up the characters in your head, read with abandon, when you want, wherever. They are stuck in a sitting position in front of the TV, which leaves nothing to imagination. How soon will it be before we are a nation of veggies, sitting in front of the tube in PGs and grinning stupidly? Who will travel, and save the world? I don't know.
