? Jumpers has nothing to do with Performance. They just set slave and master drives on either secondary or primary controllers. They do not decide whether or not the device has Direct Memory Access to the memory and processor. You should go do a search on DMA and see what it has to say. But yes, Jumpers would be a key factor if your motherboard wasn't detecting the drive. But obviously you can burn, just not at full speed. Also, the reason it wants to be on a separate controller from your other CD Rom is because of the bandwidth between the 2 CD Roms. When performing a direct Disk to Disk copy it may have a hard time and drop to 6x-8x speed even at doing nothing with your computer.

You are so very wrong (Reply to this comment)

Thats funny, my BurnProof works fine, the cd's are done in 7 minutes, and it IS the slave on my chain....see there are things called jumpers that you must change...I disagree with you entirely

Burning Speed. (Reply to this comment)

I had problems with Burning with other drives including my TDK 16x10x40x32 drive. I found out that it enjoys being the only CD Rom on a particular controller. So maybe your rewriteable on the Primary Ribbin and your other CD Rom on the Secondary Ribbin. Also make sure that DMA is enabled on your motherboard and in your devices settings for your rewrittable. If DMA isn't checked then you need to check it. That will dermaticly increase your performance in speed. DMA is Direct Memory Access to ofcourse your physical memory and processor. It doesn't have to wait its turn it says give it to me NOW! I have been able to burn at both 12x and 16x with out any problems. I do however when I surf the internet it does slow down to around 6x or 8x depending on what I am doing... But I am willing to deal with that instead of doing nothing or a new coster...:)
