Great article! (Reply to this comment)
by klmagpayo
hi! i would just like to clear some stuff. i would like to network two computers which are probably around 10m apart. when you mentioned i needed a crossover cable, what cable did u mean by that? is that what they call the one with the RJ45? coz i was trying to buy that cable one time and they said if i use more than 5m, it won't work properly since it's goin to be too long. But i was inquiring about a direct connection to the dsl box from the host computer. Is the connection u mentioned in the article the indirect type? also, i have two OS's in my 'client' pc (winXP and Linux) and win98 on the 'host' computer. would there be any problem networking the two? m sori, i have little knowledge on these things.. pls enlighten me:)

Hi Mike,
I like ur review very much. I need some in regards to setting up a n/w in my home. Well to begin with i have an existing PC with Windows-ME on it. To this there is a printer connected and internal PCI modem. Now i have got a new PC with windows NT4.0. i want to use single internet connection and share the Printer. I needed ur advice in setting up a n/w with this setup.
Thx,

Thanks!
I buy all my PC parts from a local computer fair, which usually takes place in schools, football stadiums, or basket ball courts, and places like that. The components are usually a lot cheaper, once I got a £240 CD-writer for only £180!
I find it far cheaper than to buy commercial PCs its more reliable too!
By the way, I live in the UK, and the only way I found out about these fairs was through adverts in newspapers. I also find highstreet stores better value than large retailers too.
I would recommend a network, you and your hubby could browse together!

You really seem to know what you are talking about! If I ever want to do this I will refer back to your epinion and follow your advice!
Where do you buy all your parts from?
My hubby builts computers from scratch too, and he says it's a nice way to customize your PC, as the ones in the store don't always have what you want or need, but it not much cheaper in the long run than buying one ready built. That's why I'd like to know where you get your parts from so cheap!
