The Bottom Line: I would not purchase this product again. It was hard to open, get the first towel out, a little pricey and did only so-so job.

| 4paws's Full Review: Stain Stomper Carpet Spot Remover Towels |
Like a lot of other people, I have some special floor care needs. I live in an apartment, so the carpet wasnt new when I moved in. Since that time, weve had our share of accidents. I have two cats that occasionally experience instantaneous hairball eruptions. For the last two months, I have been blessed with a foster dog. That is, she needs a home and is staying with me until the right people find her. Also, she needed a little socialization, as it seems she just did not interact a whole lot with people before I got her. When she first came to me, she had several little accidents, but that all seems to be in the past now. Then, of course, Im the biggest clutz there is, and shortly after moving in, I decided to do a little redecorating with a glass of cranberry juice. Yeah, well, stuff happens. I wasnt sure that I could physically handle a real shampooer, so I have been trying a few other options first. One of my most recent experiments has been Stain Stomper Carpet Spot Remover Towels. This product is Carpet Spot Removal Towels: For carpets, upholstery & more; Removes Old & New Stains; fast action and Odor absorbing. Really? I thought. Well, well just see about that. I have to say that I was in an ugly mood when I began grappling with the Stain Stomper Carpet Spot Remover Towels. So, lets look at this one step at a time.
The Package
Its always helpful to know what youre looking for in the store, which is the reason I try to include this information. Stain Stomper Carpet Spot Remover Towels comes in a canister that is 9 ½ inches tall and 4 inches in diameter. The container itself is white with a label in green and blue. The lid is blue and I located it in the same aisle as other carpet and spot cleaners. The canister holds 40 disposable towels that are 7 ½ inches by 10 inches. I purchased these 40 towels for $9.99 at Walmart.
Product Claims
Finally an end to the hassles and hard work to clean that carpet stain. Now you can put your foot down with Stain Stomper, the fast acting, easy-to-use stain remover. Make quick work of carpet and upholstery stains with Stain Stomper. Once the stain is removed, Stain Stomper keeps working by preventing re-soiling of future stains. It also claims it will remove the following stains: Wine, Juice, Pet Messes, Food Messes, Baby Food, Odors, Grease & Oils, Soda and Dirt.
To Open Package:
(Straight from the container)
ֿ. Pull top lid off by lifting upward. Do not pull on tab opening.
2. Pull towel out from center of roll. Insert corner of center towel through flap opening on lie. Do not push finger through opening.
3. Replace lid and pull towel out at a 45-degree angle. The next towel pops up automatically. When finished, reseal by closing lid flap to retain moisture. Dispose of towels in the trash. DO NOT FLUSH DOWN TOILET.
Sounds simple enough, doesnt it. I mean how many of us actually even need directions on how to open these new-fangled pop-up cleaner and wipe containers? Well, for this baby you need tools! I dont mean anything simple; I mean power tools and the grip of King Kong. I battled this thing long enough I worked up a sweat (well, actually that doesnt really take a lot for me on an Oklahoma humid day). I pulled, I even pulled on the tab that they told you not to pull on (and I see why not, because now it has a little of that stretched look of over-worked plastic. I tried prying it up with my fingernails, but they broke. Then I decided to do the unthinkable by the container instructions, I was going to stick my finger into the mouth of the monster. Of course, I got my finger stuck and it felt like it might be amputated, so with the other hand I worked my way out of there. I thought I was going to have to call for the jaws of life. Next, I got out my trusted screwdriver and started trying to pry it off with that. The first thing that happened was that I put a fairly substantial gouge in the lid and was grateful it wasnt in the hand that was not in pain. Then suddenly I noticed that if I pressed hard on the container near the lid, there was a little gap, a veritable siren calling my name saying this is the way in. So, I mashed the container and though my fingers could not grasp the lid, I was able to finally get my screwdriver under the lid and worked it to the rim and flung the thing off like it had been sent from a giant catapult. Finally, I had it open. I managed to work the center towel out and thread it through the opening praying that it would not do as many other wipes do and tear off beneath the opening because if it did, I was throwing it out.
Directions For Use
These are fairly simple:
If the stain you want to clean is a liquid spill (that is you catch it in the act of staining), blot excess liquid first. (duh!)
For Carpet: twist your foot back and forth over the towel. This action should remove the stain (repeat if necessary)
For Upholster: twist your hand back and forth over the towel until the stain is removed (repeat if necessary).
Ok, I have a question for you. If you twist until you remove the stain, why would you need to repeat?
For stubborn stains, re-moisten the towel with water and re-stomp. After the stain is absorbed and gone, simply discard the towel. Always test for colorfastness on an inconspicuous area before using.
Sounds simple enough. I took out one towel and began on a recent spot that had fallen prey to a hairball. I lay the towel on the spot and then started to twist it on the floor. Well, I had my slippers on and you really should have shoes or the towel will go one way while you go the other. I never could do the twist. I then moved the towel to a different spot that had been there a little longer. I continued to hit the main spots, even the cranberry juice that I spilled two years ago. I must say the fresher stains pretty much came out. Some of the older ones, looked better and I thought I would give them a little time and then try them again. I did and it seemed they were still more improved. I will have to try them again, and Im pretty sure some of the stains are just destined to be buried with the carpet eventually. All in all, Id say it does a fairly good job. I dont know that it did a better job than a couple of other products I have tried. And as much trouble as I had with the container I doubt Ill ever make this purchase again.

Final Thoughts
Anything short of a miraculous evaporation of spots, would entice me to be purchasing this product again. While it is relatively effective, it is a little more expensive than some other products that will produce similar results and I cant remember the last time I encountered anything so hard to open. Its not worth the trouble to me when I can find something that will do the same job as well or better.
