This is good information, but... (Reply to this comment)

I enjoyed your review and gave it a VH. However, there are a couple of things that you got a little garbled, which is very understandable considering the complexity of the technology and lack of accurate information.
SDTV is what you watch on your analog TV today. It can also be transmitted over DTV. The version of SDTV that we use in the US has 525 interlaced lines (not progressive) and has a maximum over-the-air horizontal resolution of about 330 lines. This doesn't really translate well to pixels; since it's an analog system, it does not address specific pixels.
Although our TV system (which is called NTSC) has 525 interlaced lines, only about 480 of these lines are visible. That's why the system is sometimes referred to as "480i." The display format that you mention is 480 progressive lines, or "480p." This is a substantial improvement over SDTV but not as good as the two most common HDTV formats. Some people make the case (and I'm one of them) that 480p is a form of HDTV, albeit not the best.
Sorry about the technology overload. Writing about this technology is what I do for a living.

but I saw a widescreen 60+ inch screen at a electronics store, and the picture was ba-yew-tif-ful!
The way they make tvs is incredible. No lines whatsoever, just a clear picture, like someone was painting straight onto the screen :P
Good Review and Analysis (like specifics, hehe)

Yes, now I kind of have an idea what HDTV is, but im still not too impressed with it. I saw what HDTV was suppose to be like on Jay Leno when he first unveiled it, and like I said it didn't really impress me much. But great review anyway.

...of course, with me and TV, almost everything I learn is new. Thanks for a well-positioned, informative review that was an easy read.

This sounds so cool, too bad it has to cost so much. I know my daughter would love this.
