Cons: Due to a clothes explosion ... I needed to buy several of these!
The Bottom Line: A beautiful over-the-door valet. The “B” in the Bottom Line hangs very nicely on the end hook.

| dlstewart's Full Review: InterDesign Over The Door Valet |
I admit it ... I bought more clothes than I should. But you would, too, with the sale prices I purchased them at. The store practically gave them to me! So with no more closet and drawer space, I made another buy the InterDesign Over-the-Door Valet.
Description
Over-the-door Valet is a fancy name for door hook. This contemporary-design chrome hook is beautifully made. There is a 1 3/8" squared opening that slips over the top of a standard interior door. The overall size of the piece is 7" long x 4" high. The metal is very solid and sturdy. I dont know how they did it, but this hook looks constructed of one piece of metal. Just looking at it gives me confidence that my clothes will hang safely on the door.
The hook has a graceful appearance with curved lines. There are two parts to this over-the-door valet. The top part of the piece curves in a downward swooping line away from the door and forms a U-shaped hook for a hanger to slip over. The end of this hook is capped by a beautiful chrome oval bead that is 1 1/4" long.
Beneath this down-curving line that ends in the hook, there is an L-shaped section to hold more hangers. The horizontal piece where the hangers reside is shaped like four gentle rolling waves. The entire unit is well-constructed of shiny silver chrome.
Previous Valet Disasters
I fired my previous clothes valets. Well, actually, they quit. The hard way. The hooks were constructed of plastic and broke beneath the weight of their load of clothes. Okay, so maybe I overloaded the hooks a bit. If I had a walk-in closet, Im sure this would never have happened!
Plastic hooks were not the answer. Metal is the way to go. Metal doesnt snap in the middle of the night sending a cascade of clothes onto the floor, causing a terrified feline to scream and launch into the middle of the bed with claws outstretched.
No Assembly Required
Each over-the-door valet is attached to a blister card. Simply free the valet and decide where on the door you wish to position it. No tools are needed ... but long arms are a plus. The hook easily slides over the top of the door. When I slid the valet hook into position over the door, the bracket easily fit into place. Its a snug fit without being too tight. Position the valet to face into a room, or turn it the other way to face into the hallway.
My Experiences
I love these over-the-door valets. Not only do they look beautiful, but they do a great job of keeping me organized. The valet can be used a few different ways, too.
The U-shaped hook at the end of the valet can hold a hanger or several hangers. A jacket, shirt or scarf can be also be draped over the end where the oval bead is.
The L-shaped area is specifically designed to hold hangers. Four hangers fit neatly into each of the four waves. By only placing four hangers in this area, the clothes will hang with plenty of space for wrinkles to drop out of the fabric (hopefully! dont you love to iron?). But if you follow my path, youll fit a few more than four hangers into this area. The wavy bar is 3 1/4" long and can accommodate quite a few hangers, depending upon the type of hanger used. The clothes will crowd each other a bit, but thats what clothes steamers are for, right?
Since I also sew and quilt, this valet comes in handy for displaying the quilted vests I am making. I can work out design details while a vest is hanging. Sometimes it helps to have a project right in front of the eyes so that inspiration has a chance to work.
This over-the-door valet isnt only for clothes, though. Use the end of the hook to hold a sachet or pomander to scent the room. Just make sure the potpourri isnt touching any fabric ... it could stain the material.

Purchasing
The InterDesign Over-the-door Valet can be purchased at Linen-n-Things for $7.99 each. (I used a 20% off coupon to lower the price.) Look in the area where the laundry and plastic storage supplies are displayed. I found them on an end cap.
If you are interested in this same hook at a lower price, I discovered that Target carries this over-the-door valet but under their own name for $5.99. The hooks are located where the hangers are displayed.
Summary
I was good and donated many of my lesser-worn clothes to Big Brother / Big Sister. (They even offered to pick them up!) Since I purchased several of these over-the-door valets, I use them to hang the clothes I plan to wear during the week. They also hold clothes that need ironing. And {ahem ... okay I admit it} ... I still have a teensy bit of a clothes overflow. These hooks are great at keeping me neat. And I promise not to buy any other clothes until I get rid of some more!
Okay ... Im uncrossing my fingers now. I really mean it.
I hope you have found this review useful.
