| NisMax's Full Review: Cricket Communications Mobile Phone Service in Sal... |
(NOTE: This review is based on service as received in the Cricket Communications Knoxville area. Epinions has not included this area in their list. Customer Service is also included.)
Bought my Cricket in November 2000 - at a grocery store of all places! Walking through Kroger, I saw a display and thought "I need one of those." So I bought one for $94.95 which was $5 off the regular retail of $99.99 which includes the phone, charger, and first month of service. The grocery store didn't activate them, just sell them. The cashier told me to call the number on the bottom of the box when I got home.
So I went home, plugged in my new Nokia 5185i and called the 1-800 number. Before I knew it, I was on my way. The rep on the phone explained everything in exact detail - how much service was, extra features available (I chose insurance and caller ID), available long distance and the service area. She asked me where I lived and told me that the phone should work fine. The service area ia actually designed for Knoxville, but I live in the neighboring city of Maryville. The map showed coverage in Knoxville, Maryville, Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. It works in all these places as well as Rockford, Louisville, Lenoir City, parts of Greenback, Loudon and Townsend. The area is growing as many of these last places were "No Service" when I first bought the phone.
Within just a few minutes I had successfully activated my new phone. I also knew when my bill would be coming and how much the total was going to be. The extra services I got (caller ID and insurance) added to the $29.99 and make mine higher, but she made sure I understood all the charges and agreed to them before the phone was activated to avoid "sticker shock" when I received my first bill.
In January, I began receiving phone calls from a guy who said I had his phone. He claimed to have lost his and was calling the number to see who had it. After verifying that the number he called was indeed mine, I told him he must be mistaken as I had a bill with that number nad my name on it. After he hung up, I called customer service. The man I spoke with was very helpful. He looked up the number and assured me that it was my name on the account and not this other fellow. He was going to look up the other guy's name in the system and find out what his number was, but I hadn't gotten his last name when he called. He told me if he called back to have him call Customer Service and they would help him find the correct number or get his last name and notify them and they'd call him and work it out.
I've purchased two more Cricket phones since I bought mine, one for my husband and one for my sister-in-law. These were purchased at the Cricket store in Knoxville. The sales people there were very friendly and even though I already had a Cricket phone, made sure to explain the plan and answer any questions I had. They even put on the leather sleeve I purchased for my phone and were very interested to hear my comments about the service I had been getting with it.
I've been using my Cricket phone for 4 months now with no problems. The service is very good in the advertised areas and I've been surprised several times by receiving a signal in areas I wasn't supposed to. All in all, I've found this to be a very good plan for people who make a lot of calls and don't want to bother with counting minutes, roaming charges, or signing contracts. Everyone else I've talking to in this area agree - and there are alot of Crickets in use around here. I see 'em everywhere!
