Great idea gone West (Reply to this comment)

Front loader -great idea does a terrific job and saves water too. Service man's downside. The electronic controls do not like voltage dips. It fries their poor little gizzards!!! In some parts of the world utilities don't watch their distribution voltage very carefully - ya know the shift WATCHMAN HAS TO HAS TO HAVE A SNOOZE SOMETIME. So while he snoozes the front loader electronic boards fry!!! The original front loaders had a good old rotary timer. It would last for years and years. It was tried and proven. Then came along came the transistor age. Every design engineer just had to throw a electronic board into the mix. Down the sink went all the learning and reliability the industry had spent 40 years perfecting!!! If good old Bud Maytag came back into the system to-day he'd kick all those electronic boards and design wizzards out through the door. I am sure he could come up with a frontloader that would last for twenty years, then need a new belt and a couple of gaskets - for the next twenty years. Couldn't make a dollar, you say, hog wash!! Bud's new front loader would cover the market like a blanket and the other also rans would either pull up their socks or be run right out of the business. Not only that - Bud could sell these machines all over the world whether the electric juice was supplied by a high quality system or from one old mule turning a generator. Mule power hertz and voltage are about as erratic as some third (fifth) world utilities!!! Without prejudice _Al

Beware of Rust! (Reply to this comment)
by MikeBDenv
FYI : If you are the owner of a Neptune Washer you may want to inspect it for rust and/or missing or abraded enamel at the detergent dispenser. I have owned mine for a year and 3 months (remember the full warranty ends after 1 year!) and have just had to have a service call to replace the entire upper cabinet. A couple months ago I started noticing a stray brown spot here or there on laundered whites coming out of the dryer. I finally solved the mystery when I looked closely around the bleach/softener cup and noticed a rusty edge just under the plastic housing for the detergent filler door. After speaking to the priority one service person, Maytag agreed to pay for the whole thing, including labor (the rust through warranty drops to parts only after the first year is up). Of course none of the appx $100 in ruined clothing was covered. Rust stains are indelible but I guess it could have been worse! The cabinet now is being ordered and should arrive in a week to 10 days. The service man said he’d never seen this before on a Neptune so who knows if anybody else has the problem.

. . . lets me tangle with this household appliance.

But most often I am relegated to the vacuum or the microwave.
