The Bottom Line Drink eight glasses of water, every day for a week, and see what happens.
I've been on my share of diets, both successful and unsuccessful. I've eaten my share of diet foods (I enjoy drinking Slim-Fast shakes... yum), cooked low-fat, low-carb, low-sodium, low-sugar, low-nutritional value. I've been through quite a lot in my search for the perfect weight loss plan, I've done my research and paid my time. And I've discovered one tip that sticks with me, no matter what diet I may be on this week: drink water. Drink water? Did you know the more water you drink, the less you hold on to? That you can burn seven calories for every ice-cold eight ounce glass of water that you drink? That the sudden drop in weight you may have in the first few weeks of a long term diet is simply 'water weight'? Well, it's true. Most people drink one to two glasses of water a day, if that. It is recommended that you drink at least eight eight ounce glasses of the miracle drink a day - more if you are very overweight or exercise. When I was seeing a personal trainer for a period of three days a few years ago (I never said I wasn't flighty), she recommend with my half an hour of exercise a day, I drink twelve glasses of water a day, more if I had caffeine or excessive sodium. That's a lot! To get in the habit of drinking more water, first measure your water glasses you use already. You'll probably be pleasantly suprised that most glasses actually have about twelve to fourteen ounces in them, so you'll only need to drink four to five glasses of that instead of eight plus. The bottled water that most people are familiar with (the ones that are most often seen in cafeterias and convience stores) are sixteen ounces, of equivalent to two glasses of water. You only need four of those. If you follow through with your pledge to drink more water, you'll find a few things might happen. You'll probably have to use the bathroom more often, because your body is not used to taking in that much liquid. You also might find that that extra five pounds you've been holding on to wasn't the fat on your tummy - it was simply water. You know those miracle diets the advertise on TV, the "Hollywood" diet where you only drink juice for forty eight hours and lose ten pounds? Pure water weight. You can get the same results by eating sensibly and drinking eight plus glasses of water a day. Make a change in your life - pledge to bring the water bottle where ever you may travel, and you may be pleasantly rewarded with the sweet success of weight loss. |
