| Donnie013's Full Review: Drano Max Gel Clog Remover |
My friend, like many other people have a condition that, when they get nervous, their hair begins to fall out. Maybe fall out isnt the proper term. Shed might be more appropriate because their hair doesnt fall out in clumps but the massive amount of strands can be found on their combs and in their showers.
Laraine and I are close friends and when she found herself between homes (plus a numerous amount of other personal problems), we offered a room in ours for her and her husband.
The combination of an extra family plus Laraines nervousness seemed to put my drains in weekly turmoil.
Lets face it! It doesnt take much to clog a drain! Whether its hair buildup in the shower or a wad of toilet tissue in the commode, its going to happen sooner or later. We all have the same habit reach for the plunger!! The problem with that is that its only a temporary fix. Yes, youre forcing the clog through the pipes but youre not eliminating what the clogs are getting hung up on and more often, its a buildup of soap scum. Then the junk starts building up again. Eventually, the buildup gets so bad, you cant plunge away the problem. So, when that happens, what do you do?
When Laraine and her husband lived here, we found out in a hurry how to clean clogged drains. We use DRANO MAX GEL CLOG REMOVER.
First of all, this is unlike any drain cleaner Ive ever used before. This is not a liquid; its a gel! Thats the big difference. Its just the commercial says. The liquid pours right through the clog and doesnt have a chance to eat away at the real problem.
With DRANO GEL its sort of like pouring molasses through a hose. It goes through very slowly and coats the sides or, for that matter, anything else that gets in its way.
True, those other drain cleaners have chemicals that are supposed to eat away at built-up hair and grime, but if they pour so easily and thinly, how can the chemicals work? The truth is not very well.
Lets relate this to something else we know and use daily. Shampoo! If you water down your shampoo, just how well will it clean your hair? Use the shampoo in its thick almost-gel-like consistency and you get a head full of soapy lather that is sure to remove all the hairspray, styling additive and daily dirt your hair picks up. Same thing with DRANO GEL. Its thick to ensure a nice clean drain.
Most of us are familiar with SC Johnson, the company that makes DRANO GEL but what many of us dont know is that this company has two main headquarters, one in Wisconsin and the other in Canada right where the corporate offices are located. SC Johnson is a reputable company that takes whatever precautions are necessary to give you the safest possible, chemically based product.
When listing their chemicals, they are sure to include every first aid measure you need to know for any instance.
Before I go into the list of chemicals, lets go over the first aid. My list comes directly from the Material Safety Data Sheet website.
eye contact flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15-20 minutes and get medical attention immediately.
skin contact flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15-20 minutes and get medical attention immediately.
inhalation if breathing is affected, get to fresh air immediately and get medical attention immediately.
ingestion DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING!! Immediately drink 1-2 glasses of water or milk. Do NOT administer anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention immediately.
Sounds scary huh? Keep in mind that if this stuff can successfully clean heavy clogs out of pipes, it obviously has a corrosive in it.
This stuff may cause permanent eye damage including blindness.
It can permanently damage skin tissue.
It may irritate your nose, throat and respiratory tract.
It can cause permanent damage to mouth, throat and stomach.
While this makes you wonder if the product is at all safe to use, please remember with any chemical, caution is your best friend. If youre not sure how sensitive your skin is, wear rubber gloves when using it. Keep your bathroom window open. If your bathroom doesnt have a window, switch the vent on. Dont stick your head directly over the toilet or drain while pouring. I wont be ludicrous and tell you not to drink it, but because this would a stupid thing to say, just remember to keep this locked away from children and pets.
DRANO GEL works so well because it contains myristamine oxide (acid based chemical used to breakdown and erode clogs also contains a lubricate to protect pipes from erosion), sodium hydroxide (bleaching agent used as disinfectant also to eliminate odors), sodium hypochlorite (absorbs carbon dioxide and moisture from pipes to enable chemicals to work faster) and water.
Now that you know whats in this stuff, you should understand how to use it.
Use only half the bottle if your drain is slow. Wait about 15 minutes, then flush with hot water.
If your drain is completely clogged and the water wont drain out at all, then use the entire bottle. Wait 30 minutes and flush with hot water.
Although this drain unclogger can be used on garbage disposal units, you must be sure NOT to turn the unit on with DRANO still inside as the rotation of the blades could cause the DRANO to splash.
So, with this gel unclogger, would I recommend using it? Of course! Its really the best drain cleaner on the market.
By now, youre probably thinking that this chemical isnt the right drain cleaner for you. Let me explain why I would disagree with that.
First, its extremely effective in cleaning out clogged pipes and keeping them clog free.
Second, it is safe for all your plumbing.
And finally, like any other chemical, its only as dangerous as you allow it to be.
I explained about these chemicals only because, lets face it, there are in the world people who are in too much of a hurry to read directions and take cleaning products for granted. Some people think accidents will never happen to them and they get careless. This is just to show you that chemicals should never be used in a hurry or unthinkingly.
Please keep all chemicals out of reach of children and pets.
