| 4paws's Full Review: Sterilite Show Offs Storage 1894 |
Recently having moved from a house of 2200 square feet to an apartment of 750 square feet. I actually like the smaller space. The trouble is that I have about three time the stuff than fit into this space. So, Ive been watching a lot of HGTVs Mission Impossible and just thinking, looking and shopping in an effort to find organizational assistance in the way of effective and still attractive storage alternatives. Well, so far, the most effective storage alternative has been the Good Will. Its amazing when you look at something several times, it suddenly comes to you that you have used/worn this is at least 2 years. It finally became clear to me, that part of organizing is figuring out what you really need and what you dont. So, for the past several weeks, my apartment has been a real mess, but I am finding ways to solve some of my problems. First I started with clothes. I pulled out everything that I could not remember using since I had moved. Those clothes went into a large heap. The remainder of the clothes was scrutinized yet again. The second time, I found things I just didnt like or that really didnt fit. Those were tossed in the pile as well. After I finished with the clothes, then I had to tackle the large heap. From there I made three boxes or bags and the clothes were sorted by 1) Those that might fit someone in my family, 2) Those that really just needed to be trashed and 3) Good Will donations. After I made those decisions, I just took the bag or box to the prospective recipient. Whats that got to do with Sterilite, you ask? Well, not a whole lot. It does help set the tone for what Im doing now.
I have since, moved to my crafts and sewing and my bookcase and computer space. Thats a pretty big task, but necessary to make the flow from my living room to the dining area (what a joke) which has essentially become my office. I eat on TV tray. I do a lot of sewing and being an epinion addict, a lot of time in front of my computer. So, I took the clothes philosophy and applied it to these areas. I confess that I am still in that process, but am making a lot of progress. I had the old trick from college and early marriage bookcase. You know the ones, the milk crates with boards across them. They were stacked several high. About a week ago, there was a horrendous noise that could only be one thing. The entire bookcase fell forward and one of my prized possessions; a snow globe was one of the casualties. Well, you can only imagine what kind of mess that was. I have been walking around all the things that have been there, simply moved from spot to spot (which sometimes I choose to call progress). Finally, this week, I went to the local Sams Warehouse and purchased a great set of Seville Classics Steel Wire Shelving. I finally got that together and now, to the nitty gritty of filling it up.
Than finally brings us to the Sterilite products. I had several of the Sterilite Show Offs Storage 1894 and loved them. So, after I got my shelves together, off I went to get some more.
Appearance
The Sterilite Show Offs Storage 1894 is 14 ¼ inch in length by 9 ½ inches in width by 6 7/8 inches in height. It is made of a sturdy plastic. The body portion is see through which eliminates the need for labels, unless youre just very organized. The lids are a blue sturdy plastic also with a durable, locking latch on both sides, which actually work to hold your Show Off closed. There is a handle in the top center to allow the ability to take along. The handles and handle are of a silver-gray color. They are actually quite attractive.
Applications
Ok, now I have all these little cuties (mind you, I have them in the three sizes available, but this one is the middle sized one. I have several with my sewing, which is great when I want to take a project somewhere. My Mother and I have been doing some sewing together recently, When I go to her house, depending on the current project, I can pick up the 2 or three I need and toss them in the car and go. I one them filled with my vast supply of buttons and fasteners. One has all the sewing machine or serger needs (such as extra needles, pin cushion, scissors, tape measures, forceps, and clamps as well as quilting roller cutters and any other notions necessary for the current project). I have plans to incorporate more of my sewing things together so they are easier to get out and then to put away.
I also have them on my new shelves with desktop supplies. That is, stapler, extra staples, scissors, small tape measure, letter opener, pencil sharpener, staple remover, post its, markers and lotion and Tylenol. I keep pens and pencils in something smaller. One has all the chargers, camera, cell phone and any cords or paraphernalia that goes with them and my camera when not in use.
Other uses include: one for my diabetic supplies. It is perfect for the glucometer, extra lancets, testing strips and Omron HEM-711 Blood Pressure Monitor and a few Band-Aids. This is very handy when I decide I want to go somewhere for a few days and while its at home its not quite as prominent in the Sterilite Show Offs Storage 1894.
I actually see no hope of running out of ideas for these little jewels and their counterparts (the smaller and larger ones). I already have plans for the others.
Final Thoughts
I have been very pleased with these Sterilite Show Offs Storage 1894 and would highly recommend them to anyone. They are finally beginning to make things around here a little more organized. Of the ones I have had for awhile, they have withstood my requests of them and the lid, when latched properly, does stay in place and with the soft, flexible handle they are easily portable if need be.
