Several weeks ago someone mentioned on one of my sensory lists that Stride Rite had seamless socks. After reading that post I quickly did a google search for Stride Rite seamless socks and found them being sold at Tootsies Children's Shoes Online Store.
Putting socks on is a struggle for all of us in my household. This is almost as unbearable as the tags in clothing that must be cut before wearing. The clothing industry is catching on with seamless tags in shirts and underwear. I was so happy to see John Travolta and Ellen DeGeneres discussing tags on her show recently and how they have to remove tags as well.
On April 24, 2004 the Tootsies Children's Shoes Online Store had an offer for free shipping on any $30 order. At first I only wanted to purchase one package of socks for each child, but since they were selling at ten dollars each I went for the free shipping.
I actually went through the process of ordering two so I could see what the shipping options were, but I found I had to enter payment information beforehand, so I went back and changed my order to add one more selection of seamless socks.
There are three pairs of socks per package with the photo and description on the page. Sock size is based on the child's shoe size with a chart breaking them down. Even though there is only fifteen months difference in age between my sons, they need different sizes in socks. Sizes for shoes and socks on the site begin with infants.
The description of the socks mentioned they were hand-linked cotton with no stitch over the toes on the inside of the socks. " Seamless socks end mornings of frustration." The drop down box had all the sizes listed with the quantity to enter and then click on add to cart.
The shopping cart has a few options. If you only want the one item that is listed you will click on checkout to process the order. The continue shopping button allows you to continue browsing around before completing checkout. When you want to change the quantity you do so in the quantity box and then use the update button.
There is a little trash can icon next to the total where you can delete the item in your shopping cart. Split shipment is when you want to send part of your order to another address. This will place a number (1) by the unit price column and then a drop down box under Shipment referring to A for first item. I had no need for this option, therefore I did not continue checking how it is done. This is great for those who want to send birthday gifts to family members and order some items for themselves.
I ordered one package of turn cuff socks, one package of crew and one of the quarter size. The sizes I chose were 8-9 1/2 and 9-11. I am on a dial-up connection and have to wait awhile for the checkout page to load as well as the photos when browsing. There is a toll-free number listed on the home page, they take only MasterCard and Visa. The FAQ's page mentioned it takes 5-7 days for orders to arrive.
At the checkout there was one more screen to click and verify all was complete before getting the order number and then payment authorization number. The shipment method is USPS. There was also a spot for coupon codes and a blank space for comments. I noticed when going through the check out that they had order tracking.
Tootsies Children's Shoes Online Store is located in Richmond, Virginia and is the largest independent children's shoe store. Besides finding shoes, socks and sandals there is rain wear, dance wear, wooden toys, boots, hair bows and accessories.
Today when I visited the site I found that the socks are now selling for nine dollars and the free shipping is for orders over $100. There is a coupon for five dollars off an order of $40. They now list they sell flame-resistant toddler pajamas.
If your child has narrow feet or needs extra-wide sneakers/shoes, they will find them here at Tootsies Children's Shoes Online Store. A pair of Ralph Lauren sneakers costs $38.00. The fish hair bows are $4.00.
The home page has a search section as well as a browse offering with a drop down box. This has listed the seamless socks. I was able to view all the socks on one page before making my selections. There is an affiliate program for those who have a website. " Tootsie Stride Rite will pay you 15% on each sale."
When I first arrived at the Tootsies Children's Shoes Online Store there was a pop-up for a prize of items through the store. This is a monthly drawing that is held on the last day of each month. I filled out my name and email address. I did receive a confirmation of signing up for the prize, but there was never anything in reference to my order. Since I placed my order on a Saturday afternoon I gave them a few days before calling. Due to being on the west coast I got a recording one day saying they were closed already. I did leave a message and cannot recall if I left my number or not. The following morning I called, April 29th and was told my order was being mailed out that day. The online order tracking just showed my order was received on the 24th.
On May 6, 2004 I received the priority mail box that had delivery confirmation. The amount was $6.02 for them to ship this. The label showed it was mailed out on April 29th, but they had an error in my zipcode so this must be why even a priority mail package took longer to arrive.
The information I included with my order at the checkout process had my phone number and email address. The person I spoke to said they do not send out confirmation emails. Today at the site the pop-up was for a free pair of $40 sneakers.
The site is very nicely laid out with great photos of the shoes, sneakers and other items. When shopping in the infant section there are links to help you learn about sizing. The brands sold are Keds, Stride Rite, New Balance, Badorf, Weebok, Rachel Sydney Clogs, NIKE, Tommy Hilfinger, Buster Brown, Skechers, Bobux.
There is a section to look at boys, girls and infants. Then you have the subsections for dress shoes, novelty, boots, sandals, athletic sneakers and school shoes. The prices are in the $26-44. range. At each section the size range is listed. It is mentioned when machine washable for the shoes. There are fifteen wooden toys to choose from in the price range of $19.50 - 147.50 and include trucks and trains.
The box was the appropriate size with the packages of socks individually wrapped in white paper. They were Stride Rite kid friendly hand linked socks. The information on the label was not shown on the site, such as 90% cotton, 5% nylon and 5% spandex. The socks were too tight to get on my youngest son and since we have been in a heat wave mode I did not push these socks on him. We were able to get one pair on and it fit nicely. The label states the shoe size the socks fit and made in Phillipines. The one pair had a suggested retail price of only $7.50, but I paid $10.00. The other pair had the amount crossed off, but it was ten dollars. They were 70% cotton, 25% nylon and 5% spandex.
I was disappointed that the exact description of the socks was not available online. I would not have ordered these socks due to the tight fitting and the season we are in now. When my children were in the toddler stage they wore sandals, but as older children and both being diagnosed with autism they have not wanted to wear sandals. Tootsies Children's Shoes Online Store has a nice variety of shoes that I would still consider making a purchase.
The site is very nicely organized, a bit slow for dial-up users, there is no confirmation email, tracking is not complete online, they are on the East Coast time zone available from 10-7 pm at 1-866-235-0626, have specials that change often.
They also sell seamless tights, toddler and infant pajamas, currently on sale for $24.95 from regular price of $33.00
I am still going to be on the look out for seamless socks since I would prefer 100% cotton.
