The Bottom Line Stick with the real thing!
To my great surprise, many people actually like to use Internet versions of magazines over the real thing. The whole "e-commerce" era is into full swing when you can actually view your magazines on the Internet instead of right in front of you during the day. The times of the old may soon be gone, as the Internet becomes a mainstay of everyone's life. Knowing that I am writing this Epinion in a fashion that will post it on the Internet, I already know that the only people reading this will be people who have the Internet, and like to read on their computers. That said, I may be preaching to the wrong people this entire thought process, but I am only bestowing my opinion on the matter. My belief is that receiving magazines through the mail is the way to go. The first aspect of it, is that it brings the excitement of getting mail. Being a college student, I look forward to getting mail all the time, and when a magazine comes, it makes me feel slightly special to get it. The 2nd aspect, is that you can take the magazine anywhere with you. You are not relegated to reading it just in the room with the computer. This would be a problem for me, because the computer is in a room with nothing of importance other than the computer. I could not watch TV, or eat dinner, or anything else while reading it. The whole thought process behind looking at a screen to read a magazine is also extremely far-fetched for me. I want to be able to hold my place, and start-and-stop reading my article on my own time. The biggest thing though, is that you cannot take your computer outside to do it! Sometimes it is just nice to sit out in the sun and enjoy reading some things. You cannot do that unless you have a lap-top, and it still makes the experience less worthwhile. If I am going to read, I want to be able to do more than one thing at a time. The only possible benefits that I could see from choosing the Internet over the real thing would be saving paper, and saving space. Besides those two small items, there is really no reason to not get it through the mail. Besides, if you want to save an article, you are going to have to print it off anyway, so it will be the same as getting it through the mail. I for one will never fall prey to getting my magazines through my computer, because it is not a magazine anymore, it becomes nothing more than 1's and 0's in a far off computer code. |
