When "Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul II" was released on March 15 I think I was probably one of the first people in the country to wake up and go directly to the bookstore in search of it! The reason I was so anxious to get a hold of the book was because I story I wrote called "Lessons on Napkins" was one of the 101 stories published in the book.
My story (on page 340) is about my amazing mother Dawn and how she has always been more then a mother - she has been my best friend and teacher. My mother became pregnant with me when she was in college at the age of 20 and unmarried. She dropped out of school to marry my father and raised me in a home always filled with love and learning. My mother's emphasis on education (and the notes she wrote me on napkins - read the story to find out more) inspired me to go to college and graduate school. Likewise, when my mother was 42 I helped inspire her to return to college and finish her degree. She graduated this year and is now an "official" teacher.
While I love my story and am elated it is included in a book which will surely become a best seller, I would have purchased this book even if I was not in it! This book is teeming with 101 stories that (as the cover of the book says) will "open the hearts and rekindle the spirits of mothers." It will also touch the hearts and lives of anyone fortunate enough to have a mother who loves them and who they love.
"Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul II" is just as good as its older sister "Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul" (which was published in 1997) It will still make you laugh, cry, and yearn to be in your mother's arms no matter how old you are. It is a true gift to mothers everywhere - those on earth and those in heaven - and I am so honored and elated the story of my own mother is one of the ones included in this outstanding collection of true, inspirational, tales.
