| flying_lip's Full Review: Creative Labs Nomad MuVo NX 128MB MP3 Player |
I was looking into something to replace my portable MD player. I wanted something smaller and yet reliable. I bought the MuVo NX after looking at some of the products available. Some had more functions and features, others were cheaper, but most of them had a solid feel as much as the MuVo NX has. I also like the fact that it is ordinary battery (AAA x1) operated - I simply change battery rather than looking for a USB port to charge up (very difficult when on the move).
The unit is easy to use. If you are using Windows 2000 or above, there is no need for additional installation - you simply plug it into the USB port and it shows up as a removable drive under Windows Explorer. You can simply drag and drop your MP3s and WMAs into it. Removing files are just as simple - simply delete them. The only thing Creative warns the user not to do is to use Windows Explorer to format the MuVo.
The MuVo NX supports Folders, similar to Groups on a MD, which allows you to group or subcategorize your music. MuVo NX will play the folders in alphabetical order. It will also let the user skip folders.
Sound quality is very crisp and clear, but the included earphones leave a lot ot be desired, so change them to something else if you can. The MuVo includes a few preset equalizer settings, but personally speaking, I find them to be rather inadequate in range and adjustment. If you do not intend to use your MuVo for a while, remove the battery or remove the flash memory unit from the battery housing, otherwise the flash memory unit will drain the battery in about 2 weeks.
The unit is bundled with an arm-band and a rubber protector. The protector covers only half the unit (the battery housing), but it has a clip for the arm-band. The clip can also double as a belt-clip.
