| advertisingman's Full Review: Fellowes Premium Underdesk Keyboard Manager with G... |
This 'premium' product was purchased to help me transform a plain desk into a workstation. The four separate brackets are hard to line up, even with the guide template, and getting the glide into the brackets when installed seems like some sort of Rubik's puzzle. The worst aspect is that the oil-lubricated ball-bearing glides are completely open - when using the mouse it's absolutely impossible not to touch them - so you get oil all over your hands, keyboard, mouse, trackpad, and clothes. If you enjoy the smell of gasoline, this one's for you -- and the tingling sensation on your skin from contact with petroleum products.
What's tragic about it is that this is something that could have been avoided with 10 cents worth of plastic mechanism covers -- in fact there are plastics designed to be super-slippery and self-lubricating without oil, so why didn't they use them for the glides instead of a complex ball-bearing assembly?
The ergonomic benefits of this tray are dubious at best, too, requiring you to break your wrist across the side of the tray to use the mouse, or adopt a hunchbacked position.
My advice: pass it up an purchase a dedicated sit-stand ergonomic workstation like a Biomorph - the investment is well worth it. When I purchase mine, this is going to the city hazardous waste pickup.
