Nothing is worse than showing up to see the new hot movie with your kids and finding that the movie is sold out. An easy answer to this is to buy movie tickets online prior to showing up at the theater. Movietickets.com is one of the easiest sites to make this transaction.
HOW IT WORKS
When you get to the movietickets.com site, you can enter your zip code to see the movie theaters near you. You can also click on the movie you want to see. Either way, you will get to a screen that shows the movie, theater and times it is playing. You can click on the time you want to see the movie and will be brought to the ordering screen. You may have a choice of adult or child tickets or other options such as bargain tickets. You plug in the number you want, your credit card information and in one more screen you make your purchase. The site even emails a confirmation that you can print out and bring with you.
A couple more things I like about this site:
1. The date and movie you are selecting are clearly displayed across the top of the screen at each stage. You never have to back up or second guess whether you have made a mistake in the process.
2. You can become a member of the site but it is not required. You never have to select a password or go through unnecessary steps to place your order.
FINE PRINT FOR PURCHASING
The web site has this fine print:
Your credit card will be charged when you click on "Purchase". You must present the same credit card used for charging this transaction at the KWIK TIX ATM in theatre lobby, at the theatre Box Office, or Customer Service Desk to retrieve your tickets. No refunds or exchanges once the feature has started. Please contact the theatre manager for any questions regarding this credit card charge.
HOW TO GET YOUR TICKETS
As it says above, depending on the theater, you can get your tickets at an ATM like booth, from the box office or from customer service. Given the long lines at our local multiplex, we choose the ATM booth like thing. You also have to remember to bring the same credit card you used to make the purchase.
The ATM booth-like things are easy to use. There is a touch screen and you touch "pick up your tickets." It asks you to swipe your credit card. After you swipe it, your tickets and receipt print out. It really is that easy.
CHARGES AND FEES
Movietickets.com charges $1 per ticket that you buy through the site. I consider this charge to be minor considering I am guaranteed tickets in advance and I don't have to wait in the long line to purchase them once I arrive at the theater.
SOME OTHER THOUGHTS
Movietickets.com does not work for every theater but does cover most of the large chains.
You can buy tickets weeks in advance for some movies. If you have to see a new release on the day it opens, this is the choice for you.
The site also has trailers and movie reviews. This is a great source of information if you can't decide what you want to see.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
I love this site. Sometimes, if the movie has been out for a long time, I won't spring for the service fee because I am sure I will get tickets. However, I usually find that it is well worth the $1 a ticket for the service this site provides.
