It's always nice to save money.
If you run a business you know that even a few dollars a day can affect your bottom line.
When I first heard of Net2Phone, I made a mental note to try it when I got a chance.
Needless to say, I forgot about it.
About a year later, I came across a banner ad, and although I generally do not click on any ads, at the time, I was in the process of setting up a new office and all the fun stuff that comes with it (setting up phone lines, installing carpet, etc.)
After figuring that Verizon charges the same amount (per minute) for in-state calling (business account and all) as we pay for long distance (go figure), I eagerly clicked on the banner ad wanting to find the catch.
Surprised to find out that domestic calling was actually completely free, I immediately downloaded the software and was eager to make my first call.
Installation was quick and easy, but I did have to tweak my audio settings a bit.
Fortunately, I had a microphone on hand and my first call was already being placed.
I called a friend of mine, and after a few seconds of hello-ing back and forth, I was asked in a very sympathetic voice whether or not I was coming down with a cold...
After explaining that I was in fact in perfect health and that the reason my voice sounded funny was because I was trying this Net2Phone service which was free blah, blah, blah, we actually had a decent conversation.
Bottom line...
Although the future promises much improvement, right now the service is far from inconspicuous. (even on our high speed connection).
I haven't tried it from a regular dial-up modem though, so I don't know whether the quality is degraded even more.
Use it for personal calls- as long as you can explain why it is that you sound as if you're in a tunnel.
Do not use it for business calls! - Just don't go there.
