Privacy Guard thru Capital One - Buyer Beware!!!

The Bottom Line Privacy Guard claims to be a way to research your credit and other financial assets. Besides the fact that this is an unnecessary service, this company should be avoided!

Capital One Credit Cards are presently endorsing and selling a product called Privacy Guard, which is also found
and can be purchased online at www.PrivacyGuard.com. Please be aware that this is apparently a scam, and you will be charged for the service regardless of your attempt to cancel!

I like my Capital One credit card. One problem with them though, is that any time you speak with their customer service reps, they are pushing several associated products, and it is very hard to tell them no and get off the line.
One of these products is called Privacy Guard, which is a membership service that claims to provide you with free credit bureau reports, drivers records, and social security information. This company is also on the internet by itself, and advertises to give you a 3 month trial membership, with easy cancellation.

I got suckered into trying this, being assured that I could cancel immediately if I wasn't interested.

It took about a week to get their paperwork, and there were applications included to check your credit, and do the other things they advertise. I looked it over, decided I wasn't interested, and immediately called their phone number and cancelled it all. I never applied for any reports, and the customer service rep gave me a cancellation number and assured me there would never be a bill issued. I was worried at the time that they might not take care of the problem, but was assured it was cancelled and not to concern myself further.

Now, three months later, Privacy Guard has billed my credit card for $59.95, which sailed right through, even though I had made 2 prior purchases, and there was not enough credit left for the charge. It was very fortunate that I happened to log into my account and check it, or I probably wouldn't have noticed until another billing statement came out.

I promptly called Capital One, and they have agreed to cancel the charge. As for Privacy Guard, they are only in the office from 8 to 5, and when I called the first time, it took 15 minutes or so to reach a live person.

I've contacted the Better Business Bureau, and also emailed Privacy Guard to complain. However, this company is being advertised all over the internet, and I feel the need to warn the public NOT to get involved with them in any way, shape or form!
