I was very excited when I received the Cosco Deluxe Rock 'N Roller stroller as a shower gift for my son. It had an infant carrier that sat on top that could be used with or without the stroller. I didn't have any experience with strollers, so it seemed ideal.
The Infant Carrier
I got a lot of use out of the infant carrier. It fastened onto the stroller, but you could also carry it alone. It has a removable cover, and a round handgrip that turns and locks at any angle. It comes with a base to use in the car. I had a heck of a time getting it to snap into the base. You have to align it just right, or it doesn't stay fastened very well. The carrier itself has notches on the sides for seats belts, so I usually just used it in the car without the base.
The Stroller
The stroller itself is huge. With the touch of 2 buttons on the sides, it collapses down to fit in the trunk of your car. It is fairly lightweight, but even completely folded it is still quite large. It takes up almost all of my trunk space.
The seat can be adjusted to sit straight up, or lay completely flat. The thing I liked most about the stroller was that it doubled as a bassinet. The foot rest can be turned all the way up under the front bar to keep baby safe inside. It can also be set to glide back and forth. I kept my son in my room with me until he was 1 month old, and slept completely through the night. I used the stroller as a bassinet until he made the transition into his crib.
The seat appears to remain comfortable for my son even as he grows. It is very roomy, and has a large canopy with a window on top. There is a large basket underneath that holds my purse, the diaper bag, and other shopping bags if need be. It is a little taller than other strollers that I've seen. I'm 5'8", and I don't have to slump over to push it as I do with the small umbrella strollers.
What I don't like about it
This probably will not happen to everyone that owns this stroller, but since it happened to me, I'll share the story.
One day at the mall, I took the stroller out of the trunk, and opened it up. A long, metal bar fell out of the foot rest area. When I looked down, the foot rest was just hanging there. I put my son in the stroller, and attempted to fix the foot rest. I could not get the metal piece back in to hold his feet up. The stroller doesn't have a tray in front, so I realized my son was hanging on the edge of the seat by the belt. I didn't feel he was secure enough. I put the stroller up, and used one in the mall.
Now I have a good reason to buy another stroller that is smaller and more convenient. Would I recommend this stroller? Up until it came apart, sure. After it came apart? No. That's not to say all of these strollers will have this problem. Maybe I just got a lemon.
