More Like 24/7 Sickness!!
May 02 '01
The Bottom Line Remember, it is a phase. Stay positive, don't fight against it. Eat small meals during the day.
This is my first Epinion in almost two months. Why, you might ask?! Well I will tell you why. I have recently found out that I am once again pregnant. This is my second child and again, I am combating morning sickness. I have taken a sort of small vacation from Epinions and most of the other things I enjoy in my life due to the fact that I am constantly plagued with nausea. I have it most of the day, but especially at night. So, I thought what better way for me to get back into the swing of writing, than to write about something I know a little bit about at the moment!
Morning sickness, as it is so wrongly dubbed, should be called All the Time Sickness or Sometimes in the Morning, Sometimes in the Evening Sickness. This is not something that strictly plagues expectant mothers in the mornings. In my pregnancies, I have had the pleasure of feeling sick all day long and even during the night while trying to sleep.
Morning sickness is supposed to be a sign of a normal healthy pregnancy, even though you don't feel healthy. Studies have shown that a certain amount of pregnancy where morning sickness is not present end in miscarriage or babies that are not healthy. So, if there is something positive to be said of this ordeal it is that your pregnancy is a healthy one.
I don't know if there are ways to avoid morning sickness during pregnancy, I did read that taking 200mg of vitamin B6 twice a day can help the symptoms, but I can't stomach any vitamins so I have not been able to try this myself. What I have found that helps me is eating small meals all day long. At times, I feel like I will explode from all the food I have to consume in a day, but it really does help. A few of the foods that have made me feel better are peanut butter, Cream of Wheat, grilled cheese sandwiches and lightly buttered toast. I have heard from other women that popsicles are good too. I also recently discovered that if I don't drink anything before 10:00 am in the morning, that seems to help a lot.
I feel lucky to an extent that I only have the nausea and not the vomiting that many women get. However, there are days that I wish I would get sick so I could feel better. Morning sickness can really bring you down. It can make coping with your pregnancy a daily challenge leaving you mentally and emotionally drained. It helps if you have an understanding spouse and friends. It also helps to keep in mind that it will not last forever. (in most cases) It should disappear by your second trimester, leaving you feeling like a whole new person! There are lot's of web sites to get help for symptoms and support from other women too, which helps. Whatever you choose, try to stay positive and remember you are working toward a positive ending and you will soon have a beautiful baby in your arms.
