Synchronicity isnt just an album by the police
its also a cool little process you get to do once you become the proud owner of a Logitech Wireless Optical mouse. This genre of mice must be putting PETA and others in a frenzy because it is certainly going to lead to the extinction of corded species.
So just what is an optical mouse
. Well its a mouse that uses either radio frequency or infra red technology to communicate with the computer
no more annoying little balls that must be cleaning and coddled. This particular rodent has up to an 800-dpi optical sensor which makes for great speed and accuracy.
The Mouse
All Logitech products use radio frequency to communicate with the receiver.
The shape of the Logitech Cordless Optical (LCO) is nice. I suppose this is going to be a personal preference as everyone has different sized hands. My hands are very small and I love the way I can cradle this sucker right in the palm of my hand
Golly that almost sounds a little kinky!
The mouse is comprised of two buttons (left and right) as well as a scroll wheel. A top portion, sides and bottom of the mouse are a nice translucent dark blue in color. The overall design is about where I like it, sleek and clean and not gawdy.
Installation is a snap, simply plug the receiver into an open USB port and Windows XP immediately recognized my new hardware and popped the driver right in for me. The only thing I had to do was to synchronize the little bugger. Synchronization is a snap, just press the "Connect" button on the receiver then press the connect button on the bottom of the mouse.
Range
My mouse has a nice range, it has no problems at 4-6 feet and sometimes I can inch even farther away.
Batteries
Only alkaline batteries should be used. I use 2 Duracell AA batteries and only have to change them every couple of months. The device seems to get very good battery life. There is also a battery indicator that tells you when its time to change.
Everything has a down side and the only thing I can say applies here is that any electrical device (I.e. monitor, Zip drives, speakers, etc.) can cause interference with products like this. With my model however this has never been a problem and my receiver sits right next to my cable modem, my monitor and a speaker.. If this however is a problem for you Logitech recommends moving the receiver at least 8 inches away from other electrical devices.
The mouse can be programmed to specific needs, it has your regular left and right buttons by just pressing on the left and right topsides of the mouse. In the center you have your scroll wheel, a cruse up button, a cruse down button and a quick switch button. To the left of the mouse where your thumb rests they have added two button that are great to use for the Internet as Forward and Back buttons.
