Palm 100 PDA, Serves its Purpose, but...

May 03 '01

The Bottom Line Buy the Palm 100 for basic electronic address book, but if you want to do more, look to the Palm 105.

In the past six months, I finally broke down and bought PDA. There are so many choices out there, but for the financially challenged its rather slim. You have Palm 100, and Handspring in the sub $200 category. I choose Palm because they started the current PDA market and Handspring uses Palm applications, so why not get the real thing.

I picked up the Palm 100 at my local Best Buy for $149 and believed that I had made a great decision. First thing I did was order a case and a color front plate for the PDA from Amazon, suddenly my PDA went up closer to $200. Then I realized that if I wanted to use my PDA at work I needed a data transfer device, so I blew another $29 on a cradle. What do I have to show for my $230 PDA?

With only 2MB's of memory, I quickly found lots of cool programs to run, but my memory was maxed out after a few weeks. For applications like Advant Go, you need more memory. 2MB's is NOT enough memory!!!

It is a great device, easy to use and there are tons of choices for applications, most available for free at palm.com, but I would highly recommend getting one with a larger memory. Get the new Palm 105 with 8MB.

Its a fantastic tool and I would tell anyone who is employed that it will save them time, but just obtain more memory. Phone numbers, addresses only buy the Palm 100, if you want to play games, use pocket word programs or download newspapers and magazines from Advant Go, then choose more memory.
