Pros: Distinct exterior and interior stying, "Manumatic", true sports sedan.
Cons: Center console (a little), 18 gallon tank, Ford reliability lurking in the background(??)
The Bottom Line: Appears worthy of consideration. Just that the competition- Honda, Toyota is so darn tough!!

Ever since I've discovered this site I've come back now and then to read the reviews on various cars. I work for a rental car agency and I think I've got a something worth sharing (briefly).
So with that said on to reviewing the Mazda 6. The rental fleet model is usually the six cylinder, fully equipped version. My first impressions: the Michigan built car seems perfect for a new college grad. It looks sporty, guages are large and arranged in concentric circles. The cloth seats come in either a tan or dark grey. The tan shows dirt easily. The center console has this titanium look. Fresh, beautiful... I touched it to see if it was plastic. Could use 10 fewer buttons. (Oh the plastic can and will scratch, just how easy is hard to quantify though, so kids be careful!!)
An eighteen gallon gas tank (Ford Explorer is roughly 21) seems to point to mediocre fuel ecomony for the 6. BUT the car is not stingy with its torque! I haven't played with the leather wrapped shifter too much. (Mazda calls it "manumatic" ) To be honest I can't drive a stick- but this thing was looking at me and ladies and gentlemen it almost cries for one to use it.
Well with that said - hoped I helped someone oh yeah- the transmission is VVTi, so that helps the fuel economy. One last thing- I don't work for Mazda, any of its agents or affiliated parties. (I always get the feeling some marketer is sitting down somewhere being paid to write these things!!)
With that written: God bless, and before you buy anything rent that vehicle! The experience will give you a better idea of the car than a 5 minute test drive.
